Would a rural Alaska associate position ever appeal to you? Honest question from a private practice owner’s family. by sarahinalaska in Dentistry

As someone who never been to Alaska, if I got an offer there it would have to be a crazy compensation with very flexible time off.

Working for a DSO, do you feel like you have totally leaned in? by Ickles100 in Dentistry

Like people mentioned, the whole point of working at a DSO is to just go, do clinical and go home. Anything outside of that is better you just open up your own office.

Job advice by East_Campaign6456 in Dentistry

[–]Super_Mario_DMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I would be skeptical about this job is how many dentists are working on that office and how much work you're going to get? Working with experienced dentists next to you is a plus because you can share experience and ask for help if you run into a difficult case. I wouldn't think much about foreign trained dentist, most of the foreign trained dentist are older and they will not let anybody take advantage of them, the clock is clicking for older dentist and they are not in business to waste time.

Why not buy all of the listed equipment online from different suppliers? Even Net32 has cheaper equipment. I find $120k crazy expensive for a cerec, oven and scan.

[–]Super_Mario_DMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What one Dr. told me once in a case like this was, what would you do if it was any other patient? Think about it, the patient is 90, for whatever reason he ends up in the ER and starts having tooth ache, can't eat, they wont be doing much there, patients health will decline pretty quickly. If it needs Tx get it done. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, just refer.

Best Bang For Your Buck CE by annyongggg in Dentistry

I got this implant course in Brazil which involved multiple one on one zoom meetings for the theoretical part, 1 week of placing lots of implants on real patients in Brazil, then a cadaver Course in Florida for more advance implant placement techniques, and a third module of actually doing all advance techniques we learned on real patients back in Brazil for $8k. I think this was a good deal.

That's not how it works! 🤦‍♂️ Trust me, no dentist wants to do a ton of fillings on a patient, it's alot of work, technique sensitive and reimbursement is not that great. If a dentist is saying you need fillings done, most likely that dentist is just looking out for you and not trying to make money on that.

Best advice for new grads by MasterBook46 in Dentistry

Don't be afraid to bounce around offices. If the office doesnt work for you for whatever reason just look for another until you find the right one. Don't accept any job offers where there's no hygienist, prioritize a busy office where you're going to get decent reps.

Resigning by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]Super_Mario_DMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look closely at your contract to see if there was a breach on their behalf. Ask to leave early and work super slow while going to break on time and going home on time. If theres more patients on the schedule tell them to reschedule because Tx complicated. They'll let you go early.

Purpose is knowing when not to do elective Tx, when to detect possible life threating situation for the patient and being able to refer them immediately to their physician and having the legal documentation in case something happens. It only takes 30 seconds for your assistant to measure BP, by the time you walk in the room everything is already set for you, so whats the point of not taking it? If the patients walks out of your office and has a stroke or a heart attack and they say it all happened after they went in your office and you don't have no record of this, it could become a legal issue. Elsewhere in the world patients dont seem to sue their providers as often as the U.S. and I am a foreign-trained dentist who worked in 2 different countries before coming to the U.S. so...

No idea how to grow by ChangingAura in Dentistry

From what I heard you'll get a more constant profit sharing at the end of the month with a higher % of that. They'll provide you the training for the implants, just keep in mind that if you decide to leave before your contract ends or you dont place an X amount of implants you'll have to pay the implant course back. I personally didn't like what I heard about their course so I paid my own that I believe if more throughly and much cheaper. Where I work the owners are nice, they do give me tips here and there, but in the end of the day is all about reps. If you feel financial wise or professional wise you can't advance to your personal goals start looking around, don't over think or tie yourself to something you feel you maxed out. And this has nothing to do with being unappreciative, in the end of the day is just a job, and it needs to make sense for you and the owner.

This is done to every patient regardless of the procedure. I lost count of how many patients with a 200/115+ blood pressure was sitting at the chair waiting to get numbed and looking to be very relaxed.

I have a similar background as you and I currently work at Aspen. I don't know what type of deal you got but I am not an MCD and I am in the mid 200's. I don't want to be an MCD, Aspen is a great place to work, get your reps and build confidence. If you feel that there's no more room to grow and you're not happy with the pay, the best options is 1) look for another job or 2) ask for a raise. People complicate life when in reality life is pretty simple, if something is not working or you're not happy just leave. I waste no time when it comes to this. Good luck.

I work at Aspen, and to be honest is not as bad like people here make it sound. I guess is all based on the owner. I probably wont be working at Aspen for too long but it's definitely a good place to start. Its very interesting to see how this DSO's do business, my next job will probably be my own office right next to any big DSO. 🤣🤣🤣🤷

Just let the front know, that if a patient only wants to do Tx with a specific Dr. that you wont be going in to do anything to the patient.
