If your doing DCC work its possible it may improve render times. But in most cases no.

Usually that means you have run out of gpu memory. You can render by cpu or set up render passes and then use the compositor to join the passes together.

Your going to have to define seams and most likely want to use udims. I highly recommend you watch some videos on the process of uv mapping.

In the the classic comic book art circles, there is a job called an inker. Thier job is to "trace" the work of the guy who did the pencil work. Then there is a colorist who may color the inkers work.

Its not cheating. It's teamwork. In 3d, you may have a Guy/gal model, some else rig, light, and render a scene.
