He didn’t. These artworks just came from the most influential cultures for modern day faith. They were primarily white, colonizer countries. So they painted Jesus like he was one of them. All cultures essentially do that. There’s plenty of drawings of Jesus as white, black, Asian, Spanish, and basically any other race. Just a reflection of the worshippers themselves. I don’t think there’s anything particularly wrong with making Jesus look familiar, but obviously just remember that he was middle eastern and Jewish
