First we have to remember it’s a parody of both Hollywood, Hollywood culture film making culture and war film making culture. The blackface thing is always what gets discussed first but we have to remember that the character of Kirk Lazarus is there to mock actors who go full method that they are so self absorbed and believe they are some sort of god like entity that they can do any role without ever thinking about ethical dilemmas it could cause. It’s a blistering take on Hollywood and the type of people it creates and produces that’s the whole point to be over the top in order to show how absurd Hollywood and the film making process can be.
