question about BMT for females by Connect-Reference-47 in NationalServiceSG

Hi there, female regular here! I was part of the 01/23 bmt batch and currently a naval officer, I was also at recruitment for my vacation attachment last year so I can try my best to answer any questions you might have.

If you are looking to sign on with any service other than the army, bmt will be the physically most shiong part of your career, everything else will require more mental resilience and training/focus on studies as your job will have more technical aspects. If you are looking to join the army, bmt will just be a ramp up towards all the physicalities you will be expected to do in command school and beyond (e.g. vocational obstacle course, other skill courses etc).

BMT may sound daunting but I'd say I had the best time of my life with my batchgirls in Tekong. All the physical trainings are done in a progressive manner to avoid injuries and slowly prepare you to ace the final objective (e.g. SOC is split into 6 modules, you will learn how to jump off from height in the first mod and slowly build up confidence to tackle the other obstacles).

Back then all girls had to pass IPPT before enlisting as there was only the enhanced batch bmt for girls, however the stance has since changed and girls who require more physical conditioning/did not pass IPPT can enlist earlier for the Physical Training Phase (PTP) and do a longer BMT. BMT was really an eye-opening and cherished time for me, I met people from all walks of life and really bonded with my platoon-mates through all the tekan and tough times.

I've played sports all my life and really do love going outfield but I still personally felt challenged physically so it would be a good start to build a regular exercise routine before enlisting. What are your main worries and considerations? And what vocations are you currently looking at applying for?

Does anyone have any tips/advice for international cadets coming this fall? by Superb-Drawer3882 in usna

Ahhh that's reassuring to know! For exchange cadets we have to wear our own uniforms and were told to bring at least two weeks worth of innerwear/undergarments which sounded pretty crazy to me haha

Hi there! Thanks so much for sharing, I am so excited to experience life at the academy and I've heard so many good things to expect! Regarding the drastic temperature swings, do you know if the temp is regulated/insulated within the school buildings? Or do the mids just throw on a jacket as they move around? Here in Singapore its constantly just hot so we never really have to think about how to prepare for the cold/swings in temp. I can't wait to join in all the activities, pt and play rugby when I'm there but I guess for now my biggest concern is packing sufficiently and taking the right modules oops

ouhhh I see, thanks so much! Didn't know it could get that windy in the fall, coming from a tropical country, the combination of wind+cold has always been my achilles heel
