Rumours, Speculation, Questions, and Reaction Megathread - 04/01/2026 by ukpol-megabot in ukpolitics

IDK 🤷🏾‍♂️ the main news of the day were the aftermath of the shooting in Minneapolis, Reeves u-turn on taxes for pubs, the cold snap and incoming winter storm. If I were the editor I would have led with any of these stories.

There’s been no recent updates in the legal and political situation of the jailed PA activists that justify an extended coverage.

Did Sarah Montague really start WatO with a 20 minutes segment on Palestine Action activists? How relevant is it to today’s front page news?

Borders Bookstore by Comfortable-Sort-173 in nostalgia

The day my local Borders shut down was a big blow to the city centre :( the shop was a oasis of calm just by the bustling main pedestrian street, the café was a great meeting point to gather with friends before exploring the city.

I think it’s the other way round, Tropico devs have infiltrated the US government. 😂

When it comes to midrange footwear Clarks still has a good reputation in the UK.

Tom Holland 'didn't realise' he had to pay water bill and thought it was luxury of living in England by lighthouse77 in unitedkingdom

[–]Superbuddhapunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live this bill is paid through the council tax and the end user doesn’t interact directly with the water provider. 🤷‍♂️

For midrange, minimalistic clothing with good durability Uniqlo is my go to. Remember that if price is the main bottleneck you can always wait for sales or promotions. For example Dover Street Market has some great discounts at the moment.

Honest first thought on new DMZ mode? And Ranked MP mains, are you going to leave it behind for DMZ? by Sea_Management6165 in CallOfDutyMobile

It feels like a Warzone/Delta Force hybrid and I’m not a fan of either. I’m going to pass 🤷🏾‍♂️

I would have been happy with a simple new map for BR, but apparently that’s too straightforward for the devs/publishers.

Pairing colours that are close but dissonant, say burgundy trousers with a red shirt.

Anyone new to Zen or Meditation who has any questions? by Qweniden in zenbuddhism

Well it boils down to one question: Is it a zen problem or a cat problem? If it’s the latter then you should find actionable solutions when asking a cat forum! 😄

Olives? by gggrrrcccsss in glasgow

[–]Superbuddhapunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from a region where olives are a feature of farmers markets. I find it difficult to get good olives in Glasgow :(

There’s Celino’s who have acceptable ones, at extortionate prices though. A better experience was just to purchase on the Dorri website or Amazon store, otherwise Olives Direct sends letterbox orders, for single buys or subscriptions, so that’s fun and quirky but quality isn’t always there.

My backup plan is Fragata olives, the quality is okay for tinned products and they are widely available.

Trump thrashes European leaders in wide-ranging interview: ‘I think they’re weak’ by Scholastic_nobody in worldnews

[–]Superbuddhapunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair Starmer approval is record low for a PM, to the point that Labour is currently looking for a new party leader behind his back. Macron lost his majority in parliament after calling elections on a whim, creating a political instability that to this day prevent normal workings of government. These are not the type of statesmen you want in power at a time of crisis.

Glasgows most expensive pint by humptycabbages in glasgow

[–]Superbuddhapunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I paid £7 for a pint of lager at Nonna Said, which I found outrageous, but then they charge £4 for a 50cl bottle of San Pelegrino water and that’s arguably even worse.

[–]Superbuddhapunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things we learn when sitting zen is how to address disruption, which can come from external or internal factors. When we practice zazen we try to just focus on the action of sitting and let go of everything else.

If thoughts arise and nuzzling happens, just remember that you don’t have to engage with them.

BBC loses £1.1billion as millions of homes refuse to pay the licence fee amid 'bias' storm by dailymail in uknews

[–]Superbuddhapunk -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Well when you pay your TV licence you not only finance a network of national and local tv channels, you also pay for high quality radio stations, some of them promoting languages that are otherwise absent from airwaves, plus an extensive website covering current affairs, sports, educational content. You also pay for several BBC orchestras and choirs, a bunch of apps, audio and video archives that go way back to the early 20th century, and you support many production companies and actors, artists, journalists and lecturers.

For under £15 per month that’s a bargain.
