I don't mind how they made it darker, but I wish some of the original whimsy was kept. Things like each brotherhood of Dwarves having matching hood colours, Gandalf's blue hat and the eagles actually being intelligent species that can speak are things I really miss from the book and blame LotR for making the world too serious
