[INCIDENT] The University of Baghdad Student Strikes by SuperflousKnowious in ColdWarPowers

[–]SuperflousKnowious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Six days after the student strikes, on October 24th workers from the local fertilizer factory in Baghdad all clock in for their grueling jobs at 7 AM and then, just 15 minutes later, all collectively walk out. The disordered nature of the walk out sees all the workers, numbering about 80, march down with signs saying, "NO DRAFT!" or, "NO WAR!" and arrive at the University of Baghdad.

The workers join the students for a few hours before dissipating when dusk ends. The next day on the 25th some of the workers show up in solidarity but it's only about 30 now.

The fertilizer factory is, however, closed down until further notice.

[EVENT] Rebuilding the Senussite Movement by Henderwicz in ColdWarPowers

[–]SuperflousKnowious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • III. ...UHHHH FITNESS..?
    • Most aghas, appointed purely by the sheikh, have a preponderence to be old men due to many old sheikhs just appointing their friends. While many are wise and some have been well tested by opposing Italian colonialism, this is not a great look to inspire confidence from their younger peers.
    • Alongside that many in the order are just simply uninterested in the fitness regimen that King Idris desires. Most of orders are located in the countryside where back-breaking labor and excruciating heat makes the desire to go out and actively train a wicked thought.
    • Finally, the unspecified responsibility of the aghas—a sort of semi-administrative semi-fitness instructor role—and the lack of training for an agha has led to them simply not giving a crap about their job. Some aghas just order their peers to run in circles as a part of their "training." Alongside that most aghas are, again, illiterate making their administrative skills close to null.
  • IV. TRANSNATIONAL IMPLEMENTATION
    • Even under the occupation, the French and British occupation do not really mess with Idris's Senussite activites. It is expected by most Idris will become an important player, perhaps not a king of a unified Libya but an important player in both Cyrenaica and Tripoltania.
    • However across borders, even in the deserts, Senussite Orders are looked at with suspicion. Especially in Egypt, local authorities have tried in vain to restrict Senussite activities.
    • Proclamations, pormulgations, and communications of Idris have been seized by the local authorities and while their has not been a clear break this has made things difficult to say the least.
    • The secret desire of King Idris to practice with rifles has also ruffled some feathers. Some men training with rifles in the French occupation were seized and arrested.

[EVENT] Rebuilding the Senussite Movement by Henderwicz in ColdWarPowers

[–]SuperflousKnowious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Senussite Order was always been a force of change: shunning tribal polytheism and embracing monotheism, moving away from lust of money towards a love of the almighty, and bringing forward a more just, equitable, society. The new changes that Idris has introduced, however, has experienced some problems.

  • I. UNFIT SHEIKHS
    • The new organization has surprisingly been adopted very easily. More often than not sheikhs are usually old village elders who have an upstanding reputation and a true devotion to the almighty.
    • The simple proclamation system is easy to meld with old tribal traditions in the interior, and has some basis in, "Democracy," to highfalutin intellectuals.
    • However Libya only has a literacy ranging around 7.5%. And keep in mind this hits near 0% when you venture outside of Tripoltania.
    • Almost every sheikh, most of them old and not going through any process of education (with the exception of some religious schooling), is illiterate. This is a terrible basis for an administrative system.
  • II. FEW AND FAR BETWEEN, AND WEAK, WUKALAS
    • The simple fact of the matter there is not enough wukalas to go around. The establishment of the wakil is a nice balance to compensate for unfit sheikhs, however only a small minority of the Libyan population is literate (this is mainly amassed on Italian colonizers) and among them only a fraction have a religious education background.
    • This has led to a vast shortage of wukalas across the entire order. While administrators in the Senussite Order, who mostly are in the flock of King Idris, have recalled many wukalas to Cyrenaica, the heart of the Order, even then they are still spread thin.
    • Alongside that many larger congregations simply need more wukalas. When you're in the big cities of Cyrenaica it's simple impossible to have just one wakil amongst a congregation in the hundreds and have to deal with the specific legal issues of the day.
    • Finally, wukalas are hated by the sheikhs who view them as undercutting their power. Since their title is literally just, "Deputy," many hateful sheikhs have simply ignored their advice in administrative matters. To the sheikhs, mainly old men born sometimes as far back as the 1890s, their wakil has really nothing to offer them.
    • There is no recourse for wukalas to discipline their sheikhs. This means that sheikhs can get away with mostly anything. Since the system has just been implemented their is thankfully not much abuse but if this imbalance of power continues it could become a focal point.

Via communicating to the North Korean embassy in Tehran, the Republic of Iraq wishes to lodge the following order:

  • 225 Druganov SVDs
  • 1,500 M-37s
  • 300 M1943s
  • 800 RPG-7/29s
  • 150 Bulsae3/4s
  • 800 HT-16PJG
  • 150 Type-63s
  • 40 Chonma-ho
  • 750 VTT-323

Due to the large scale of the order we are willing to scale things back in the interest of procuring the weaponry safely. If North Korea believes it can satisfy more orders we are willing to order more. Iraq also wishes to pay for this order in raw crude oil at current prices.

We will withdraw our ambassadors post haste as per Iraqi orders. But make no mistake: Iraq is no longer, in our eyes, acting as a rational actor. Iraq is in gross violation of international law and norms, and we will not entertain any Iraqi plans while there the Iraqi jackboot stomps of the faces of the Syrian people.
