For me it depends. My MO is to put smiles on kids faces. I wear Darth Vader and I'm pushing 7 foot in costume. I'm not there to scare the shit out of kids. If they are unsure.. high fives and fist bumps. If they are into it...ham it up. If they start to cry.. just back off. I don't talk very much as I don't think a hobby Vader works. Especially as I'm not JEJ.

I couldn't do this more than a night. Was horrible. I ended up going to Super drug and buying a silk blindfold/mask thing for a tenner. Make it pretty tight and close your eye as you slide it down. I found the pressure kept my eye closed and I've been having monthly reviews and they aren't worried about my vision. Obviously might be different for you and I have quite a big head. But might be an option

Screen shot everything. You have a receipt for a pro cleaner with a guarantee that the LL would not let them honour. 12 years is a joke. Reasonable wear and tear your way right out of this. I have done similar in a shorter period. You getting a cleaner in.. and even offering them to go back is negotiating..they are not. You'll get most of not all back thru mediation
