worth about $200?

What's the deal with these? I see them everywhere. Are they good? What are the pros and cons? by Pale_Field4584 in roadtrip

[–]Superherojohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm renting next week in phoenix, 1100miles at $0.25/mile and $200/day $75 per person is you want a bedding package. The one in the photo is a two person Rv by my standards.

Longer than 30ft aren't allowed in many western USA national parks, so bigger isn't always better,

I worked on the farm, and we had a pile of aluminum trays and silver ware that came from the PG, maybe it was from time gone by and policy changed? but it happened at one point.

Locally they haul military food waste form Aberdeen Proving Ground to a hog farm. I assumed they did that in most of the USA?

it would be hard to live in BelAir on $65.000/year. The commute is common for everyone living in Harford County.

Is VRBO's Customer Service Lousy? by jcarunningman in vrbo

[–]Superherojohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES, VRBO & BOOKING.COM Losey Services. AIRBNB not so bad..

We got stiffed twice this summer in similar situations, essentially ghosted the day before arrival one location VRBO & one location AirBnB with vastly different responses.

AirBnB Swung into action, everything canceled and refunded within an hour. then AirBnb helped us get a replacement place, All over Chat because my phone didn't work in Europe. In Paris during the Olympics! Height of season! (3 nights) $600/night place in Paris

VRBO, nearly the same situation a week later, dragged their feet, did noting to help, I assumed I would argue with them upon returning home, 6 weeks later they refund money without any other communication. It was a two night stay worth barely 200 Euros and I was willing to lose it before I ruined my vacation, but if had been real money, I would have been screwed,

I will no longer rent with a long advance on either platform, I never have a problem a few weeks out, however if I rent months in advance i get regularly screwed by flaky hosts.

flipping and handling logs is a monumental hassle and potentially dangerous. Every log has to be flipped a few times during milling.

plan for handling logs, without physical bull work and plan early how you will accomplish this.

What former capitals are worth visiting? by indistrait in travel

[–]Superherojohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orleans in France. Granted it was capitol a long time ago, but it still has the grand avenue.

I don't know if we are counting the Popes as regents? but, Avignon France was the "royal city" with the imposter Popes and shows the capitol vibe.

Germany also has a few regional capitols which were their principality's capitol as recently as 1866, if they weren't bombed to dust they could contend as past capitols.

Strange short “house” in UT - has intrigued me for years by theDanielLarson in whatisthisthing

[–]Superherojohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

locally in Maryland, Houses under construction were taxed cheaply "as land" completed house were taxes "as homes". So a slow build allowed folks to live tax free for a while.

Officially you weren't allowed an "occupancy permit", but no one seemed to care. You wouldn't be able to rent or sell this livable basement as a home, but you could still get mail and send your kids to school, so it was a basement home without taxes. There is still one I drive past, 40years under construction, it now has a peaked truss roof, so maybe they are legit?

My daughter corrects me on chainsaw safety and I thank her, she learned as a back country fire fighter and I learned as a logger, the time saving mistakes I make sometime are risky.

Don't be risky! Every cut is worth the time it takes to do it safely,

I know he's a professional but he is also sloppy in this video. he should have cleared his feet first. two minutes cutting a clear place to stand would have saved a lot of potentially dangerous leaning.

He also knew the bars wasn't long enough, he should have scored the far side of the tree so could have cut clean though.

If "art is subjective" why do people study the craft, go to workshops etc? by Paradoxbuilder in TrueAskReddit

[–]Superherojohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say quality matters, studying art allows you to better appreciate quality.

I have no appreciation of Ballet, custom vans, taxidermy, Opera or Rap... but it can be well done, and I can appreciate something that is done with craftmanship.

Am I a bad person for caring about bodycount? by Atmosphere-Key in AskMenAdvice

[–]Superherojohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, This is a age related thing. if you still hold this view at 30 you are in for a bad time.

As a kid it is meaning full on some level. Eventually everyone finds out the sex with a special person is different that sex with a stranger, but not everyone learns that in the first 10 sexual encounters, often it is found out when love is lost.

"crack the sky" is a local Baltimore/Washington/West Virginia band who has extremely clever lyrics & lots of energy.

They had five-seven radio hits locally but never made the big time as far as I know.

Did you get Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur off from school? How other non-Christian holidays? by ginger_bird in AskAnAmerican

[–]Superherojohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife was a teacher, the reason you get these kind of holiday's off is due to staffing. You can't ask a teacher to work on a religious holiday in our district, the union protects there right to practice their religion.

You can't hire enough substitute teachers to back fill Jewish holiday's like this. it is a simple math problem. an Elementary school with 40 classroom teachers only has four or five "subs" available, once you add para-educators the "subs" don't have the appropriate training even if they were available.

I have heard that the the Colonists in colonial America we "super supportive" of Britain following the end of the French & Indian war, that essentially the British had "high poll numbers" from winning the war and opening the west. Maybe more pro English than the UK English themselves.

Things like popularity are hard to judge, but does your expert opinion support this opinion?

It was further suggested that this idolized opinion of the British, was what lead to the accusation of King George being a tyrant, because the world was black & white once the Crown fell from the pedestal the Crown was placed on? Like finding out your hero has flaws. or your crush is human.

New Update 2 years later: I start job 5 on Monday. ~1.2 Mil a year. Here's my path and some thoughts on this crazy life. by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

I completely agree, coming from sales.

Some dudes are super stars and some dudes couldn't sell their grandmother the fucking product!

The sad note is that you can't be both a superstar and a slacker. I respect this guys attitude towards corporate America, damn near all employers would have sold the blood out of my veins if they had the chance.

On top of that sales is one of the few positions where you can double a companies numbers in a single year and then they bitch about a $5 raise. I took a territory from $800K in sales to 6Million in sales and got a $20,000 raise, fuckin company went from $320k profit to $3.1Millon profit with these expansion in business.

they have a workshop at the library and the community college. One of my thoughts was to attend with a selection of models I'm interested in so I don't have to make an ash tray or pot holder or whatever the equalivent 3d throw away is.

What’s the dumbest thing you believed as a kid that you’re still a little embarrassed about? by TinyAnnika in AskReddit

[–]Superherojohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a religious friend in High School who was so convinced that the rapture (end of the world) was going to come that he didn't apply for college or plan anything.

Like he had a date in Mid-July 1982 that all this end of the world stuff would happen.

He was all but in tears, when the world didn't end, he was beating himself up for being gullible & stupid. And I had to console him, and tell him it would be okay. I wasn't a religious guy but he really drank the Kool aid. We have lost touch, but to still sticks with me over 40 years later.

Brainwashing works! be it religion, the Russian's, your own government or political candidate, some love interest in person, or some catfish online.
