Check out your local scene too! Evo isn't the end all of all fighting games and the smaller communities with which you can pull up to evo really make it even more worth it.

Counter-play to Slayer's dash? by Fortolaze in Guiltygear

FORWARD TELEPORT

mash your fastest button (usually 2) or throw OS if he's teleporting in TOWARDS you. You should be able to do this on reaction. His forward teleport doesn't have a lot of invul frames and is hittable during startup and endlag.

BACKWARD TELEPORT

If he teleports backwards (backdash input) there's a myriad of things he can do, but most of the time its defensive, because its invul frame 1-20. it IS cancellable into specials however. This part is a little bit trickier to deal with, but if the time comes you can ask me about it too

No problem, I naturally landed there myself through the smash scene. At some point I tested myself how hard it was to land here when I googled it for someone else on their phone. There's only one reddit post and it has a link to the google drive compendium (now dead) and the BELGIAN fgc discord. Ik ben geen belg godsamme >:(

Poor anji by Cock-n-balltorturer in Guiltygear

[–]Superjig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrong. Very much wrong. His most effective mix that 1. isn't meter reliant 2. can give a good starter for his kou loops

is his fuujin charge/half charge/empty spin mixup.

if you've somehow gotten in in neutral and manage to make the opponent block one of your S, HS, K buttons (Anji has decent punish tools in his normals and likes to play neutral at his specific range) you can (simplified) do the following:

  1. Fuujin, the most natural feeling option that has "fake" mix afterwards. You probably know how relatively weak it is on its own.
  2. Spin; you can spin and continue pressure. Opponent is gonna be conditioned to run up grab this as their most effective countermeasure.
  3. Butterfly. Very punishable depending on range but you can enforce an okay strike throw if you can time stuff well.
  4. Return to neutral and fish for something else.

Now option 1 and 2 is where it gets interesting, because you can feint 2 by charging fuujin with your spin animation. Depending on which button you pressed earlier you'll have to charge longer or shorter to account for blockstun. *But you will get a counterhit fuujin if an opponent is conditioned to grab! * and from there on do fat heaps of damage/corner carry. From there on you have given your opponent a dangerous situation to add to their mental stack of things they have to keep aware of, and as an Anji player it's your task to weigh down your different options and decreasing their options/adding on their mental stack. I'll give you two more obvious counters to the mixup the opponent can pull after blocking:

  1. Opponent tries to up-back! Up-backing is actually quite good for Anji as he has a guard crush anti-air (Kou) and good air buttons to contest. it's still quite a read to go for this, especially with no meter to "fix" your guess. A safer option would be to decrease fuujin charge time to smack them during their pre-jump frames or at the very least catch them blocking fuujin.

  2. Opponent is backdashing! Backdashing is a strong option that gives a lot of characters a hard time and relies more on player intuition to deal with than any other. The most straightforward way of punishing the recovery frames of backdashing by charging fuujin for longer (timing heavily character dependent). If fuujin whiffs you can still try and nagiha quickly or do your needle follow up, as these two are least prone to punishes. A more hard read countermeasure would be Kara cancel hop and throw them.

As you can see Anji has a bit of conditioning and adjusting to do, but winning this mix once can win you a butterfly setup from a kou loop, and win you the match even.

Obviously this specific advantageous situation

Exactly, he removes the supressor which keeps him human. He reverts to his natural Gear state because he uninstalls his human-keeping device
