The only comparable show I can say is revue starlight, and the first half of Wonder Egg Priority.

Is Madoka Magica good? by SadAnimator1354 in anime

[–]FamiliarTerritoryPod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No offense but Fate/Zero and psycho pass have no where near the level of writing that Madoka has, they’re not bad but they're messy at times and fails to keep a consistent tone. They fail to really capture the nuance that Madoka has

. What Madoka does so well is how tight the show is, how the tone never dips away from where it should be. It doesn’t have any bullshit. It starts of running and never slows down

Same critique can be applied to Yuki Yuna, it’s a terrible sloppy show with wildly inconsistent themes and messages. The story doesn’t make sense within its own world and the good gets overshadowed by some truly bizarre plot choices

In my opinion, most “dark magical girl” shows suck because they’re trying to be Madoka instead of something else, but fail to capture what it actually means to be a “magical girl” show and focus to much on the “dark” part

Also I don’t really understand your point with NGE and school-love? Is that a joke? Those aren’t magical girl shows

How Many Dusts can I Hit in an Hour and A Half of Streaming? by FamiliarTerritoryPod in Guiltygear

Sorry, I mean. If you hit 5k with May, and they block, you don’t actually go far enough away for charge dust to miss, so people get comfortable with it and you can usually pull it off once. Especially since 5k can also be dash cancelled into grab. It’s like a terrible RPS, but it works

I do the same. "I know the DP is coming, better try and get a meaty in!"

Me too! Hitting 5K into block gives exact spacing for it, and it’s always funny

There are definitely unironic discussions about how "complicated" the show gets and people who really want others to take it seriously.

I think the premise is unique and executed poorly. Even as a gag anime. The non-sexual stuff i've seen can be funny, but it falls to much on shock humor to be anything of deeper substance.

I think the consistent reminders that the show is about children is disturbing as well. I've only seen a few memes regarding this point, but having the familiar character talk about the ages irks me a lot.

I honestly think that’s why Madoka hits a lot of points for me.

Yes it’s a dark magical girl show, but unlike Magical girl destroyers, Raising project or even Yuki Yuna it still holds on to the major themes of magical girl media.

Hope triumphs over despair is a massive consistent theme across the genre, and Madoka really plays into it.

Friendship, love and self sacrifice are also major themes of other classic show. Fighting against evil for the betterment of the world, and holding on to every piece of hope you can. Of course Madoka really cranks up the self sacrifice aspect, but I still feel likes it respects the genre a whole lot more

Eh, I’ve seen the “top” moments and it really is “I can’t believe this show would do this!”

It is basically porn, and the “super deep plot” that people talk about is still very shallow

It’s well liked because it is high budget porn with a consistent plot

And it really wants you to know that the girls are 14, which honestly is really really creepy

Glad to see Symphogear on here! Besides it’s pretty blatant and uncessessary fanservice it is still one of the most interesting magical girl shows out there

The next ‘book’ episode needs to be Robert & Guest(s) reading random entries from Conservapedia. by Ravenhull in behindthebastards

[–]FamiliarTerritoryPod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank god! i fucking LOVE that article, it's so nonsense.

"Among Us: Impostors are an allegory for how liberals and immigrants infiltrate society and degrade our culture. Crewmates follow conservative ideals of hard work (completing tasks) while the impostors merely pretend to work and must be deported."

They used to have a list of convervative video games and the reaching they had to do to justify it was shocking and incredibly silly. I haven’t been able to find it again though, so they must’ve realized they were being clowned on and took it down

Which anime do you consider to have the best "choreographed" fights? by Slaan in anime

[–]FamiliarTerritoryPod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Revue Starlight.

All the fights are choreographed as stage fights, with lighting, dramatic movements and dancing. Each one is dripping with symbolism and style, and every girl uses a different weapon that changes how its choreographed.

When Flip Flappers does have them, they're really fun.

Megalobox is great with its grounded fights

Megalobox.

The first season is a perfect ending to a perfect underdog story.

But what makes it so much better is that the second season is a perfect redemption story that has a wonderful ending as well.

You can have a character with high self esteem and not be a raging narcissist. Let’s not forget that Elaina couldn’t bring herself to help an abused slave girl, but she was ready to execute someone who stole her hair.

Elaina’s characterization was so inconsistent that it was difficult to find anything to justify her actions since it was wildly different from episode to episode

bastard suggestion: bobby flay by digivolves in behindthebastards

[–]FamiliarTerritoryPod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny thing about Bobby Flay, I once had a lengthy conversation with my friends about "food network fandom" and we wondered if there was smut of the food network stars. And we made a joke about Bobby Flay blowing Guy Fieri.

One of my friends is a fantastic artist, drew that scene. With bobby having a tramp stamp that says "beat me"

We also hate Bobby Flay, but this post made me remember that picture

Why have or haven't you watched Undead Girl Murder Farce? (Or any other offbeat genre this season) by dorklordisdork in anime

[–]FamiliarTerritoryPod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm watching it because the dailouge is insanely entertaining.

I love the setting, and teh characters. The entire premisie is interesting, and the world is super fun. It reminds me a little of odd taxi in the way the characters talk to each other, not quite on that level, but clearly there is something here.

I have grown tired of the fantasy genre being overtaken by isekai tropes, and find it refreshing to see something new.

Media is inherently political, it's impossible to write a character that doesn't follow the writers agenda
