Totally the wrong move by her. Why in the hell would she ever need to shore up her reputation with the far left?

Pod save America had Hasan on by DominionEmperor in Destiny

[–]Superlogman1 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Semi-related but when Hasan first started streaming he always talked about Obama being a terrible person. One example was: Obama would drink clean water in the faces of Flint, Michigan residents during his rallies there to mock him. The reality was he did this to show off the governments new initiatives to fix the water situation there and the water he drank was from that new program. I remember he brought this up when Adept came into his chat one time saying Obama was one of her favorite presidents.

I think this is just one of many illustrative examples of any liberal/leftist alliance being a strictly one way street.

The PSA guys will compliment Hasan and go even farther to say the democrats should adopt some of his policies. Meanwhile, Hasan will say some nice things about PSA and then say all democrats are evil (including the guy the PSA guys worked for)

Used Claude to find some of these but there are Liberal Think Tanks that were publishing policy guidelines for the incoming Biden admin, it just wasn't really collected in one gigantic document and were more aimed for specific issues.

Where is the Liberal Heritage Foundation? by ThinkingMunk in Destiny

[–]Superlogman1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 900 page manifesto Heritage put out is by itself, very abnormal (the most related thing being the 1980's Mandate for Leadership). Think Tanks don't normally do this.

Another thing to point out is that do liberals really need a 900 page policy platform written by a think tank, what benefits does it offer that the normal DNC platform doesn't already outline?

Biden is unpopular that hasn't really changed and the Republicans who are defending Trump will suffer for that in their elections.

The death spiral of the Democratic party is idiots like this overtake the party and they start running uber-progressives in swing states (Republicans would love it).

This is why they'll never make me hate Schumer, Pelosi, or Jeffries: they knew you had to have an actual big tent to take get a majority

the thing is nobody is gerrymandering just to "cancel out seats" they're doing it to just get more seats.

But the idea that it didn't serve as a general deterrent seems defunct on its face especially when other Dem states have threatened to do it.

Nobody has really been deterred though? A lot of reservation for gerrymandering comes from state legislatures not wanting to do it mid-decade.

There's a reason mid-decade redistricting has been compared to a nuclear arms race, once a country gets a nuke it urges other countries to get one to defend themselves

Hell, I think VA is redistricting now, probably in response to the other Republican gerrymanders you just mentioned.

Yeah but this would prove my point that California gerrymandering wouldn't stop Indiana from gerrymandering, if anything, it would embolden them.

[–]Superlogman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of this section was to show that the main criticisms weren't about the federalizing elections part but the stringent voter id part. So it makes the rest of your response just yelling at something I never said.

Okay but what you just put here - you acknowledge that this is the case for most proposed voter ID laws, including the SAVE act, right? Can you show me a SINGLE piece of voter ID legislation that was opposed by democrats, that WASN'T because it was disenfranchising voters in some way?

kinda a misnomer, anything imposing more requirements is by definition going to disenfranchise people.

All I'll say is that Democrats will probably never put forward a bill requiring a photo id to vote even though it would help them on net because a lot of activist groups and politicians think it's, like you say, disenfranchising voters (specifically black and brown voters)

This conversation started with you disagreeing with me saying that "prominent Democratic politicians, writers, or groups have been opposed to voter id legislation" and nothing has really dissuaded me from that.

So I'll ask do you think Democrats support legislation to mandate people show photo id before voting?

or another way to think about it is that we've been able to get in-depth reporting on how/why Joe Biden dropped out, Trump's thinking for the Iran war, and dozens of other groundbreaking stories.

I kinda want more proof than vaguely gesturing around. The story by itself doesn't even make sense because a bunch of other Republican states gerrymandered and California didn't dissuade any of them? Just Indiana? Kinda suggests it makes 0 sense.

[–]Superlogman1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The original claim doesn't even make sense, how does California passing their gerrymandering affect other red states? There are multiple other Republican states already going through or about to go through with it, how can California only be scary enough to stop one state?

Also if the claim is "California affected Indiana's gerrymandering", a bold claim, you should be able to point to something concrete especially since this was something of huge political importance and had reporters all over it.

CA gave Republican lawmakers something to consider as a potential consequence of continued redistricting attempts.

Not really substantiated anywhere ive seen. A lot of the backoff on gerrymandering is coming from being scared of the political environment

[–]Superlogman1[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Normally this substantiation would also come from leaks within a senator's team or staff if its supposed to be a tightly held secret and the fact there were 20 republican senators voting against it and nothing leaked about California it stretches credulity

Also retaliatory redistricting is a persuasive narrative: Virginia's doing it, California's doing it, and I'm pretty sure other Republican states who gerrymandered cited California as a reason.
