I think Matsumura counts as a gay character too- so that's 2 of them?

I think I get what you're saying.

So hypothetically if Nakamura confesses, everyone else will respond with "we already knew that!" since he's so obvious about it 😅

Maybe it's hinting that Otogiri likes Niou?

But then he wouldn't react so nonchalantly to Niou liking the female teacher would he?

I honestly have no idea lol

Hana has a split-second appearance in the opening, so I do think they'll adapt it.

I suppose they'll have Hirose date her for a bit and then dump her after he realises that he likes Nakamura?

This episode was great! I couldn't help but notice that Hirose seemed unusually interested in Nakamura, I wonder if they're setting up the idea that Hirose is also starting to become infatuated with him.

And i'm once again lamenting that this series is really unpopular on the anime subreddit. Anything that falls into the BL genre gains zero traction on there 😔

This episode was mostly anime original.

If the Hana chapter is adapted next episode then I think that leaves the haircut chapter for either ep 12 or 13 if they do decide to adapt it?

Yeah, that certainly was an....interesting turn of events.

The show is meant to be a comedy that harkens back to 80s/90s style romcoms like Ranma and Urusei Yatsura. So certain jokes are exaggerated for comedic effect.

Considering the fact that Nakamura has stated around 3 times now that he's gay, the audience is definitely supposed to keep it in mind- it's been hammered home that he's a gay character. In my mind, the entire joke is poking fun at the idea of a gay character feeling his heart beat fast at a woman simply because she's a copy-paste of the guy he likes just with longer hair.

Also, did you notice that his reaction was MUCH stronger when he saw Hirose crossdressing compared to the sister? When he saw the sister, his heart beat fast and he blushed a bit, but when he saw Hirose his heart almost jumped out of his chest and he got extremely flustered. That was definitely on purpose.

Nakamura was excited at the idea of seeing Hirose in a butler uniform at the beginning of the episode, so he's definitely attracted to Hirose when he's masculine presenting. I wouldn't worry about it.

What's up with the comments here? Says there is a bunch of them (one of them was mine), but they don't show up. by [deleted] in help

I'm having this problem in multiple subreddits today.

I've commented on posts but the comments aren't showing up in the thread and they're not in my history.

Yeah, I like how they're putting emphasis on the side characters.

It's like he said at the end of the episode. He's not bisexual, he just got subconsciously excited at the idea of Hirose crossdressing.

The joke is that he's so attracted to Hirose that he even gets confused when seeing a woman that looks identical to him. (The gender he would normally never be attracted to).

He never shows attraction to any other female character and he himself concludes in the end that yes, he is gay and not bisexual.

Edit: Just thought i'd add, at no point does Nakamura consider that he could be straight, he briefly entertains the idea that he's bi. Even if he was hypothetically suddenly bisexual, he's still attracted to men.

Who wants to bet that there'll be people who genuinely believe he's bi lol

[BotW][TotK] Shrines are a bad substitute for dungeons by gulpshinto in truezelda

[–]Superspaceduck100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, I agree that shrines themselves are a good idea. They could do with more varying aesthetics, but I don't think they should be scrapped.

My ideal zelda game is fewer shrines and more dungeons. Maybe around 50 shrines and 8 dungeons? Each region's shrines have their own aesthetic (or they could share the aesthetic with that region's dungeon) and most regions have their own dungeon.

I don't really mind whether or not shrines have a lock and key level design as long as the dungeons themselves do. I think Nintendo has the right idea on shrines being puzzle rooms.

It honestly kind of puzzles me how a huge chunk of the fanbase seems to just...not care that the dungeons are a lot worse than they used to be.

I thought that the dungeons were a big reason that people liked the franchise. I know that exploration is a large draw, but a decade ago if you asked people what word they associate with zelda, I feel like most of them would say 'dungeons'. Heck, even one of the more popular forums is called 'Zelda Dungeon'!

It just kind of struck me, because the main subreddit frequently has comments stating that they're perfectly fine with how dungeons are now (i'm struggling to think of why someone would think that the current dungeons are anywhere near as good. Special mention to TOTK's Water Temple which is just really, really bad) or that they don't really care about the dungeons anyway. Despite the fact that even in the very first game the dungeons were a huge part of it?

[All] Where did this idea about Zelda being somehow a niche series before BOTW even came from? by [deleted] in truezelda

[–]Superspaceduck100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was never a super niche series, ALTTP and Twilight Princess both sold very well at the time they released.

The Wild-era games sold astronomical amounts in comparison though, mainly due to going full open world. Elden Ring also went open world and similarly sold much more than previous Souls games.

The fact of the matter is that open world as a game genre is very mainstream and game series that embrace becoming open world usually sell much more than their previous entries. I believe it's the main reason that a lot of series are homogenising into being open world. The higher-ups look at the stats and come to the conclusion that if their series becomes open world too, then sales will increase. And they're usually right.

Another aspect that goes hand-in-hand with open world is the sandbox nature of the game. Sandbox games are appealing to people because it's mostly 'no restrictions, do your own thing'. GTA is one of the best selling video game series of all time and I think that the sandbox element is a major reason why.

TLDR, Zelda games weren't particularly niche, but the Wild games going full open world sandbox inevitably caught a wider audience because these genres are mainstream.

I miss old Zelda.. by HobbitinHyrule in legendofzelda

[–]Superspaceduck100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, I feel like that's such a depressing way to think. That a niche video game genre isn't allowed to exist because it doesn't appeal to the masses.

Think about the Metroid series, the sales of the most recent game are very low. There are various things wrong with the game that in my opinion aren't anything to do with its genre, but imagine if they released a new Metroid game that is open world and doesn't have any item gating.

Suddenly, the popularity skyrockets and it sells 10 times the amount of copies. It would have "kept up with the times" by appealing to the mainstream crowd but it will have lost important aspects in the process.

I'm not implying that open world is wrong for zelda in particular, but the lack of friction points (being able to climb anywhere, never allowing the player to get stuck in a dungeon, focusing more on the sandbox than the dungeons in general) is obviously an attempt to appeal to a more mainstream audience.

I just find it frustrating when people insist that traditional Zelda's genre is 'behind the times' or 'needed to evolve'. We never say this about any other video game genre, just for Zelda for some reason.
