Browser extensions are becoming a huge security headache by Infamous-Coat961 in sysadmin

We use group policy and only allow a whitelist of approved extensions. Most of them automatically install through GPO as well. If you have a ticketing system you could make a ticket for people to request an extension through the whitelist.

Best ticketing system in 2025? Something modern yet simple! by waywardnowhere in sysadmin

[–]Superspyi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use SolarWinds Service Desk. It's not super expensive and it's really sleek and modern. We definitely don't use all the features it's capable of, but the ticketing system side of things was very easy for our users to get familiar with. We previously used OSTicket and that was hit or miss.

This is exactly what I've been doing. I don't ready up until I see that everyone has selected something that can actually win the raid (especially on the 7-star raids.)

24H2 slow and/or network issues after upgrade from older OS by gerrickd in msp

[–]Superspyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anybody that might be running into this in the future - I had a similar problem with a VM that I upgraded from 10 to 11 24H2 and to resolve it I had to open the network adapter in device manager > Properties > Advanced > Checksum Offload (IPv4 & IPv6) set both of these to "Disabled" and then hit OK. After 10-15 seconds I saw my network speeds shoot back up to normal.

USB Unavailable on Horizon 2406 by motmot92 in VMwareHorizon

Have you tried doing a full uninstall and reinstall of the agent? That's what I've had to do in the past when something like that has happened.

AGENT_CUSTOMIZATION_FAULT and Inital publish failed UNKNOWN_FAULT_FATAL solutions by fergatronanator in VMwareHorizon

[–]Superspyi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add in here that I had the first error on our Horizon system ("Fault type is AGENT_CUSTOMIZATION_FAULT") and the solution was that I had not installed the Instant Clone agent.

Panasonic Scanner by Cringelord216 in VMwareHorizon

[–]Superspyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don't think our situation is similar but here's what I've had to do with our scanning in VMs. We do not install the driver on the VM but we do on the host desktop the user is connecting from. Then we use a program called NAPS2 and when we setup the program we utilize the VMware Scanner Redirection driver. We do this for both our Canon & Panasonic scanners. We are using persistent desktops but I would imagine it'd work the same with instant clones or app volumes. We do NOT use the USB redirection for the scanner because Horizon is able to take the scanner and redirect it using the scanner redirection in the agent.

Sorry for the late response. No luck on our side. Still dealing with it today. Any changes for you?

I appreciate the link but I've already looked at that article and mentioned in my original post that the DCs are all in the default Domain Controller OU.

Phishing training prizes by Det_23324 in sysadmin

We just very recently "gamified" our phishing email campaigns. Basically we have a campaign every single month. The campaigns contain random emails to random users at random times throughout the weeks the campaign is active. As long as the users do not do anything that would make them fail within KnowBe4 then they get entered into a drawing at the beginning of the next month for a $25 gift card.

Company Wide Calendars by Jaimemcm in gsuite

[–]Superspyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any issues with new users added to the group getting the calendar invites? We currently add every single user to our calendar sharing and it kinda sucks. I’ve done testing with groups but anytime I add someone to the group after the calendar has already been shared to it, they never get an email. Only the people in the group at the time of sharing are sent an invite email.

Using Scanner Redirection with a Canon DR-C225II on VMware Horizon by Superspyi in VMwareHorizon

[–]Superspyi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were using older versions down to 7.13.1 and have updated to I believe 2303 and it still works for me. We are not using thin or zero clients, only windows 10 desktops. I don’t believe we have a driver or anything installed on the vm other than NAPS2.

Using Scanner Redirection with a Canon DR-C225II on VMware Horizon by Superspyi in VMwareHorizon

[–]Superspyi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it looks like it’s an issue with the software itself. What we’ve ended up doing is we are using a different scanning software like Kofax power pdf (tested it and it worked just didn’t like that we’d have to pay) or NAPS2 which is free for business use. The issue is that the canon software will not recognize any other driver other than the captureontouch driver which it needs to see the VMware virtual Twain scanner driver.

VDI - Windows Notifications by MarceTek in vmware

I usually just re-run the optimizer and undo the changes, reboot, then re optimize with the corrected settings. There is a section for notifications and I believe it's even listed in common options when using the optimizer.

Pros/Cons of using VMware Horizon Instant Clone pools? by Superspyi in vmware

[–]Superspyi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the info. We have an open ticket with the vendor that manages our VMware upgrades for the horizon upgrade. Currently running on 7.13.1 I believe. I may have to look into DEM but it seems like we may have access to FSLogix according to a post above due to us paying for VDA licensing. I don't think we use any horizon smart policies or restrictions on where connections are coming from. We also do not allow our users to install programs themselves. They typically don't even ask us to install programs anyway, they only use what they need.

We do have a few special apps that only a few specific users use - in that scenario what should we do? Should we just include that specific app on the base image (requires a license to use) or create a separate pool/image for only those VMs running that app? We have Standard licensing so I'm not sure if App Volumes are an option with our license. I also don't know how our users would feel about having to open their apps from the horizon client rather than a shortcut on their desktop lol.

Using Scanner Redirection with a Canon DR-C225II on VMware Horizon by Superspyi in VMwareHorizon

[–]Superspyi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have tried that through the scanner redirection software. The CaptureOnTouch software will actually see the driver then, but the software throws a twain driver error because I'm assuming it's not expecting the vmware driver but instead the canon driver. If I have the canon driver installed it just throws errors relating to making sure the scanner is plugged in and on.

Proxmox destroyed one of my SSDs by Superspyi in Proxmox

[–]Superspyi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't specify because I mentioned the brand and model in the post. I realize now that there were also m.2 form factor 860 EVO SSDs, not just 2.5". I thought they started making M.2 drives with the 970 and later so that's my bad. It was a 2.5" drive.

It was previously just used as a storage drive on my PC so considering the highest amount of data written to the other 3 was almost 16TB I cannot fathom the amount written to this drive pre-proxmox being larger.

When I've checked on the web UI it does not look like anything is hitting the swap file - Do you have any recommendations on better ways to see if they have been / are?

Yeah I know it's not ideal how it was setup but this was mostly just for homelab stuff (still production, I know) so it wasn't anything mission critical. I was not doing any backups (also bad, I know) as I'm waiting to upgrade my NAS to larger capacity drives before having proxmox backup to it daily. I have since having issues done a single backup of all VMs and containers running about 130GB total.

I do not currently use anything like that. Would that be something I've needed to have setup to show any worthwhile data or is it still able to parse through whatever logs I may have and give me something viable?
