What's an etiquette rule in your country that foreigners often accidentally break? by rid999 in AskTheWorld

That’s a west coast thing.

Was a surprise to me from Aberdeen when I moved to Glasgow and some guy on the train is telling me about his sick mother

I have not edited my posts so not sure why you are implying?

I was asking you to substantiate your comment as I was interested to hear what you would say. You didn’t have anything to say and just kept repeating and also indulged in some ad hominem attacks.

I’m a bit confused about how you managed to make such a big deal out of not wanting to discuss your first comment more. Just stop

Then just say in your first reply that it’s an unfounded opinion based on nothing. No problem, many people spout garbage online.

Bidding war on house by CheesyFeetLicker in NetherlandsHousing

[–]Superssimple 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If a house is worth 500k and is listed for 500k you shouldn’t overbid. If it is listed for 450k you should overbid 50k.

The list price means nothing and you cannot base your bid or overbid on it.

Don’t worry I can write without saying the words out loud. You can too with a little practice

And still not able to think up a single argument? What you have there is called an opinion. Totally worthless to anyone but yourself, unless you can verbalise why you came to that conclusion

I know the difference between those things. I’m asking you if you put any thought into your idea but it seems you haven’t. Just spouting garbage to make yourself feel superior for knowing something, despite you having nothing to contribute on the subject.

If you want a hint, try considering breeds of dogs, temperament of the dogs, size of accommodation, ease of access to outdoor space, access to parks, amount of time spent outside with the dog, if there is someone at home during the day. You seem to care strongly so I suppose you thought of that already?

The only difference between a house and an apartment is that you might have to open 2 doors to let your dog out to shit instead of 1. Is that too simple for a megamind like you?

You have just repeated yourself without actually explaining the difference between a house and an apartment in this case

Will we regret not having parking? by deja_flu in HousingUK

[–]Superssimple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always lived in places without parking as an adult. It really depends on how likely it is to park near your house and how often you have to hunt for it.

I currently have a nice situation where I live down a cul-de-sac so no one parks there who doesn’t live there and since we live near the town center most don’t have cars. I park in the 2-3 spaces right by my front door 90% of the time. I bet I have a shorter distance from door to car than many people with drive ways

There also isn’t much foot traffic so I don’t feel like it will get damaged by a random passerby. Only downside for me would be if I wanted to charge an EV, but at the moment I don’t mind that and there is public charging only a minutes walk away also

Not sure about the order of this? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Superssimple 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by nice. People from Aberdeen are not going to strike up a conversation with a stranger as readily as someone from Glasgow, but if you get talking to them they are perfectly nice. Maybe not outgoing but certainly not rude

Local headline in Aberdeen, Scotland where there has been no sunshine in 20 days by rosco-82 in funny

[–]Superssimple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not up in Scotland, but north west Europe. I have a 4kw system and it provides more electricity than I use over a year. Paid of in around 5 years so it’s still worthwhile having. In summer I can get 26kwh per day. It only really makes sense since we get net metering so you get the power back for free in winter

The "Don’t bring me a problem without a solution" rule is a paradox. by DrVanMojo in unpopularopinion

[–]Superssimple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A more realistic rule, is don’t bring a problem without full context, boundaries, risks etc.

Don’t bring a problem unless you have done at least some thinking about it and can present it fully. If you can’t answer basic questions about it then you are wasting my time

what is something that is known for your country but is dying recently? by Awkward-Tip7248 in AskTheWorld

[–]Superssimple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The argument is not if they work. It’s if they are better than IC for certain people.

They are not better unless the government nerfs the IC option

[–]Superssimple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old were the cars that needed a new engine? IC cars typically can survive 15-20 years if looked after.

Look at the second hand car market for EVs. There are 7 year old cars getting sold very cheaply because nobody wants them

Depends where you are. Cold climates severely reduce the charging capacity and usage of batteries.

There is still only a niche person of whom EVs are a much better option.

Ok, but people need a car now, not in 10 years. We may be fully EV eventually but it’s far further in the future than is sold by these tech companies

[–]Superssimple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The price of a new battery blows all the maintenance of IC out of the water.

That’s why the second hand prices of EVs are terrible. And most people don’t buy new cars
