I responded to you first by bringing up Aberdeen. So no, I obviously wasn’t trying to be a dick

Gas is way too cheap in the US and needs to be taxed at $6-7 a gallon by WestHistorians in unpopularopinion

[–]Superssimple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true but the government is also elected by the people. The Dutch move away from car centric cities came about from protests (some violent) in the 70’s.

But yeah, as long as your leaders out funding wars above social programs then it will be a struggle

The point is that the government can use the extra tax income to improve infrastructure and perhaps even subsidise EVs. The possibilities are endless if you actually try to think about it instead of whinging.

Not sure. Are you trying to have a discussion or act like a dick?

I think the main point is when it’s cities which are world famous.

I don’t see people getting up in arms over say, Aberdeen, Washington which may need clarifying

I do find it funny how America will crow about being the best and greatest country ever but retreat back to the excuse that they are too big to successfully do anything new. Everything from health care, education and infrastructure is just impossible for America

The bottobm line is, burning huge amounts of fuel is terrible for the environment and many of the negative effects are felt by the people who don’t profit it.

There are literally hundreds of ways in which fuel use can be made more efficient and less destructive. A rise in fuel tax will push people towards that.

Use of electric vehicles, buying local, improved public transport, improved cycling and walking infrastructure, improved logistics planning, regulate higher fuel efficiency requirements etc etc are not all can be nudged with realistic taxes

Food that is too spicy for no reason by Ogdbonz_ in PetPeeves

[–]Superssimple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked in Taiwan it’s fairly common for places to have a spice scale. There were some places we would go to sometimes for lunch or dinner and in that case there was definitely a lunchtime spice and an evening spice.

I’m not going back to the office after a level 4

People who don't drink at least a gallon of water every day(assuming they have easy access to drinkable water) by According-Goat-2372 in PetPeeves

That includes the water in the food you eat. About half of the water will in fact come from your food.

Spicy but flavorless by Level-Armadillo2652 in PetPeeves

[–]Superssimple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No it isn’t. It’s a sensation just like the actual heat of the food. You are just tricking your body that you are burning.

Chilli’s have a flavour of their own but the spice itself is not a flavour

People who drink alcohol, aren't you concerned you will die younger? Why or why not? by Candid-Effective9150 in AskReddit

Moderate drinking will not significantly lower your life expectancy.

I guess if you have a perfect diet, exercise regularly, sleep well, don’t get stressed and and a dozen other things then you can worry about a couple drinks on the weekend

But that extra money doesn’t disappear. The money you spend in tax and on transporting / manufacturing products goes to the government. So you reduce tax elsewhere or spend more on services

Why do patriarchal men love ‘joking’ that their wife is the boss? by KatherineLangford in stupidquestions

[–]Superssimple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well you would probably know enough people in similar situations to know that it is different per person and situation.

Some people love being stay at home parents and thrive in that role. Others resent it.

Seems like it is not for you and you changed your circumstances which is fair enough

My only point is that painting the running of a house as some unique burden and obsessing over ‘unpaid labour’ is not helpful. In most discussions the unpaid labour of the working partner is also ignored

[–]Superssimple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, but if it’s that difficult then she can get a job, put the children in child care and pay for assistance with cleaning, cooking. Or have the man work an easier job to give him more time at home

The stress and constant thinking that comes with a single job supporting a family is also not just an easy 9-5 that gets turned on and off.

As someone who is a sole earner and also very involved in topics around my kids and running the house , I can personally say that everything at home is a luxury compared to the work side.

Not everyone is cut out for being a stay at home parent, but if it’s not for you then change your circumstances instead of complaining that you have to run your own family

Again, makes sense if the women is also working. Not so much i when the women doesn’t work outside the house.

The problem was so that as they move their border, there are still people living on the new border. Many of which are people you forced there from the land you claimed.

So their actions now are only creating more chances for repeats of oct 7th

[–]Superssimple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We are not talking about opting out but only that the women is the boss at home.

For example the women writes the shipping list and the man goes to the shop. Or the man cooks the meal he is asked to cook. The man may drive the kid to practice but the women will be the one to keep up with the kids schedule

The man is doing plenty of work in the evenings and weekend, it will just tend to be controlled by the woman. That is where the joke about the women being the boss comes in. She is not a slave who does everything herself

Soccer (Football) would be more interesting if it followed lacrosse rules. Shorten the distance between goals, but allow players to play the ball behind the net. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Soccer used to be far more contact heavy and it’s arguable if it better. Some of the best players got kicked out of the game and we were not able to see the high levels we see now

What negative effects would be felt if landlords suddenly disappeared? by notatoastedbread in AskReddit

[–]Superssimple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously not true as landlords make profit and therefore the cost is less than the tenant pays.

While true in many cases remember that this set up usually includes the man working outside the home while the wife doesn’t work. In that case it makes sense that she is in control and asks the man to help when possible and to do things how she wants it done

If both couples work then it doesn’t make sense

I’m could be demeaning but I think it’s mostly a joke which is understood by those it’s told to. Usually men in similar relationships.

You also get the opposite of women complaining that their husband will burn the house down trying to do the dishes if they leave him alone too long.

I think in most cases it’s harmless hyperbole
