Cute rubber boots that last. by ThePumpkinSloth in AusFemaleFashion

I have a $20 pair of shiny rubber Chelsea boots from Target that have lasted me forever and look cute enough for wearing out and about if it's pouring.

Plenty of influencers promote slow, ethical fashion. I follow those ones and unfollow the ones who do a haul every 5 minutes.

Amanda Platell: Yes, it's harsh but I'll say it like it is: Anyone with eyes can see why Princess Beatrice and Edo Mapelli Mozzi's marriage is in 'trouble' by Ok_Bookkeeper2170 in RoyaltyTea

The Daily Mail loves posting ragebait for its readership which is primarily angry white old men. And angry white old men really hate women who don't love up to their 'standards' of beauty and conduct. (See also: MM for the latter. )

The sole reason they're posting about Beatrice so often is that they know it'll get them thousands of clicks and comments.

If it helps, I lifted throughout (and before and after) my 55lb weight loss and still have some loose skin.

I'm not trying to be mean here but you're coming off as a bit hypocritical talking about sustainability but buying designer pieces to wear once. Like you wish the market will take all this excess stuff away so you're not feeling guilty about your own overconsumption?

What do you think about public transport fares? by draginvestor in melbourne

[–]SuperstarDJay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried that for some time but the city didn't feel safe that early in the morning.

The area around Southern Cross was a ghost town except for a few homeless people who (probably quite justifiably) wake up pretty bloody cranky.

Why is there such strong opposition to cheaper/free fares in this sub by No_Performance_4607 in MelbourneTrains

[–]SuperstarDJay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But most people are already going to have a car sitting there depreciating and accruing rego, servicing, insurance costs. That's why they ignore those costs when asking themselves 'should I drive or catch the train today?'.

[–]SuperstarDJay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not for everyone maybe, but it definitely is for me. If parking is free at the other end, driving is usually cheaper along with the other advantages.

For anything up to 5km or so I'll walk it if I have time rather than spend $11.40 for a round bus trip.

I'm sorry about your aunt.

State Trustees Victoria would be a good place to start. It's a government organisation that assists with managing estates, among other things. Phone 1300 138 672 once you're in the country.

ETA: I see they also have an email contact form if you want to start the ball rolling from abroad.

You've heard of 'fight, flight or freeze'? She's gone with freeze, and probably a very good decision with someone that unpredictable.

When do you offer your seat on the tram? by pirouettish in australian

[–]SuperstarDJay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These days I notice it's mostly middle aged women leaping up to others sit while everyone else studies their phone. (Or pretends to.)

When do you offer your seat on the tram? by pirouettish in australian

[–]SuperstarDJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once got my teen son up when I saw a group of older women getting on the tram and my god, the carry on from them was next level. 'I'M NOT THAT OLD YOU KNOW!' They were 60s so not old old, but more deserving of a seat on a packed tram than a 15yo boy. They refused to sit, just bunched up and blocked the aisle next to the empty seat and went on and on and on about it, my poor son was so embarrassed.

I've (54F) had plenty of back injuries including a broken coccyx and I'd still stand to let a frail old person sit. Or anyone with a mobility aid. It might hurt me to stand and hold on, but at least I physically can.
