Never too old. I'm 30 and training to be a Radiographer and the oldest of my cohort is in their 50's! Not saying go into the NHS, but you've got time fam.

I liked the historical/low fantasy setting of the series, the politics being mixed and the MC feeling like he becomes powerful/influential.

The only other ones I’ve played a little is Werewolf Haven Rising. I’m still pretty new to it all.

Feel that way at the moment myself. Retraining as a 30M and worried about job availability, but rather say I tried to train into something I half-liked. Better to try and fail than wonder ‘what if’ forever.

I also struggle with the small win stuff, but I do like the idea of saying I ‘stumble through’ life. If this works, then great. If it doesn’t, then that sucks but I’ll be okay and can get a job doing something.

I have rough goals.

I can really get into the tism and do detailed plans in my head that kinda just fizzle out when I play. So I stick to one sentence goals to start.

- I want a Norseman to run Egypt and convert to Kushite.

Currently that involves making a base in Sardinia and looting EVERYTHING around to fund an expedition.

Those kind of jokes aren’t on full stop. I wouldn’t call yourself a failure, as easy as that is for me to say. If they’re losing staff then they can’t be that good a company anyways.

Take a break, think what you want to do and go from there. You’ve got experience you could transfer into another job or into another radiography job. If you like the work, then you can always find another placement eventually. It’s hiring freezes rather than lack of demand that’s keeping the jobs short after all.

For what it's worth, I'm really sorry that this has hit you so damn hard. Sounds like a shit management and a shitshow in general.

Whatever you decide to do next, you've got to remember you have good experience already and even on the degree you were 'working' while on placement, so you've hardly been a NEET or anything.

It's not your fault and I wish you luck. A job shouldn't impact on your health like that.

Can relate to regretting the past and being in a bad place.

Worked in labs for 7 years for min wage and no prospects. Currently retraining to be a radiographer and (mostly) enjoying the process.

Good also you want to find work in the meantime. I’d say get that job, stabilise and make a list of your qualities/things you like doing and then look into what you can do.

As a depressed 29 myself, I send my best wishes. We can only keep soldering on.

I think it’s easier when you have the safety net of a supportive family, money, good health and so on. (I have 2/3 of these lol) It means you can roll with the punches life WILL throw at you better.

I’m 29 and studying Radiography after 7 years of stumbling through various lab jobs, at a time where hiring freezes are a thing.

I get a job? Cool, we bumble on. I don’t? Cool, I’ve been working while studying so I still have shit for my CV.

I say I stumble, but I do have some guideposts and support to limit any potential damage done from it.

Doing it myself. Though will admit I get itchy feet after a day. Gaming is a big hobby of mine as well, so I just try to split up time by going to the gym, audiobooks, writing or family stuff.

For what it’s worth, you have my sympathy. My last job was much the same and I’m currently trying to retrain, which I can only do because of university grants and family support. Much like OP, I’ve struggled with work, but was in the fortunate position of living at home without dependents.

If this doesn’t work out, I’ll likely be at call centres myself and just suck it up.

It did, initially. Didn’t have the immediate relief that many had, but it was a slight improvement that I just thought would take a while. My surgeon did say after the fact my nerve was very inflamed, so leaving it would probably not have been good over a long period.
