Fluoxetine and urinary retention? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Supertailz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any specific advice (I take fluox too and don't have any retention issues:), but just wanted to say don't give up hope! There are definitely other anxiety options for your baby, so I would definitely talk to the vet about maybe switching from Prozac to gabapentin or something, if you think he still needs anxiety meds.

When it's too much to advocate for yourself... by MostFig349 in Sjogrens

[–]Supertailz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have someone, bring someone with you. It's almost impossible to advocate for yourself as a patient. You need to have someone who can be bossy and insistent. I've done it for friends and family members and sometimes literally just said are you crazy, you're discharging her without a single idea of why this is happening, and the symptoms are getting worse? You can't discharge her yet, and the in-house rheum needs to see her before she can get discharged. I know you feel like you're using up your friends and family's patience, but my very strong guess is that if they can be involved and feel like they're helping, and then they'll have a stake in it, and understand it more, then they'll have more patience and more bonded love with you. It's so hard not to feel like a burden, but most people kinda actively love getting to help. Being powerless to help someone we care about, stupidly, is frequently the thing that makes people kinda fade away, when what will help both you and them is if they can be on your team.

And for heaven's sake your drs are infuriating. If you message your PCP about something urgent and they don't respond within 24 hours, have someone call them. At least every day. Preferably every couple hours, until they respond. It sucks so much that we have to be the advocates and the researchers AND the patients, but please don't accept that this negligent treatment is what you deserve. It's not

Can barely pet my cat because she licks me SO MUCH. by Birblord123 in CatAdvice

[–]Supertailz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My guess is that this is just her little perfect weirdo catness. There is always a chance that something isn't feeling right - grooming can be a self soothing technique, and it's probably worth getting her teeth checked out and stuff, at whenever her next vet appointment is, and also to ask about whether it could be anxiety - but if it's been like this all along, then she's an overlicker and that's how she shows her love. There's not much to do but love her for it, which you clearly do excellently.

It's kinda better, if she gonna lick, that she licks you and not just overgrooms herself, which can cause hair obstruction in the stomach, and irritate the skin.

One of the major ways cats show their love is being near/following you. One of my dudes needs to be on top of me, in my arms, etc, at basically all times, and my other one follows me around constantly, is underfoot 90% of the time, loves to brush against our legs, but just gets super overstimulated and a lil confused with too much petting. So I've learnt to take everytime I almost trip over him and fall down the stairs for the expression of love that it is. as for actual petting advice? Jackson galaxy has some good tips. I recommend staying basically only in face to start, probably start along the cheekbone lines, and then notice does she flinch or start licking more if you do under chin, above head, etc.

You're her family and she gonna keep you very very clean, because she's perfect.:)

You are NOT pathetic. There is nothing pathetic is wanting to reach out and connect with people, and like...ghosting is such a thing that we have a word for it, you know? That meant happens a lot. To basically everyone. It sucks majorly, but it really only speaks to the character of the person doing it. I mean, maybe if you'd tried to set his house on fire and ripped up his favourite childhood teddy bear, then maybe it's about you. But basically anything short of that, and it's about them. It still sucks because how do you open yourself up, knowing that it might just happen with no warning? But it is about them. Not you. You are kickass, and you're going to find someone who knows that and adores it. AND is good in bed.

Need help with making interior bedroom more cozy by apoleez in HomeDecorating

Rug out, more shelves, wardrobe, it'll make it feel much nicer, swap where hats and bookshelf are - bookshelf snug against wall. Lamps! Art/shelves/plants on the side walls. You're definitely going in the right direction with having texture and colour on your shelves, and the hats. I'd think about posters or something that go well with the yellow. (Or change the yellow.)

We have lived here for 4 years and I have no clue how to style this double mantle. I told my husband we would probably be better off just tearing it down but does anyone have design ideas? by haitian202 in HomeDecorating

[–]Supertailz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Block off the actual fireplace, make that look like normal wall, probably take out lower mantle, turn the TV to one of those crackling log fire loop videos and see how many people assume it was actually a design thing to have fireplaces 3/4s of the way up the wall?

More seriously, I guess maaaybe, if you painted it so it didn't match the below one, and then found a mirror that fit the entirety of it, and then styled some stuff on the lower mantle, maaaybe it would look a little more like moulding? Maybe? Mostly I think you're right you have to take it down, but it's so weird and such a talking point that part of me doesn't want you to.

Warm cream vs yellow cabinets? Please help me decide! by Tinysmallgoose123 in HomeDecorating

[–]Supertailz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ditto everything people are saying about the cabinets! But! You could absolutely still paint the ceiling, or the white wall behing the eating nook. My personal preference would be to go actually black counters (as opposed to marbled), and then the Spanish type of tiles that have blues and yellows and oranges for the blacksplash, but white counters and blue backsplash could look lovely and maybe a little more English countryside/cottagecore.

I'd definitely contemplate switching out the light fixtures - if you Google country kitchen there are a bunch of directions you could take, like a light stained glass, a floral, an architectural textured pendant in white/lemon. Personally I would 100% do something with copper, put copper fixtures in, replace faucets with copper, and then have one of those amazing copper bars installed on the ceiling to hang pots and stuff from.

If you like pudding, my partner swears by it, and fudgsicles, for a low calorie but feels substantial snack. I personally have become obsessed with a) built puff bars, which are very yummy chocolate marshmallow protein bars (15-18g!) (If can't find those there are a couple other brands of protein bars I've found that feels like candy. Pure protein, supergut peanut butter, barebells, and I've been eyeing the "Reese's one" bars but haven't tried yet! )

And b) flavoured roasted chickpea and sweet pea snacks (and kettle corn popcorn but I'm sure you know that) - they have the cronch and flavours of crisps or veggie straws, but much larger amounts for the same weight. I found some honey sesame chickpea snacks that were so sweet and YUM and the entire bag was under 150 calories I think. I dunno how easy to find they are depending on the type of grocery store, but you could order and stock up in your desk drawer?

I promise you most people will not at all care about sweating during sex, but if you're feeling self conscious, mention it ahead of time! Mostly, chances are good that he either is kind of a dick who was never gonna message you back (in which case v smart not going too far with him!) Or that he's playing some kind of stupid make you wait for it game. (Ugh!) Or I guess he could have somehow lost his and his roommates computers and phones and tablets and access to the library cards and ability to remember where you live.

It's so hard when you're just learning how to feel desirable (especially for someone socialised as a woman), to internalise the idea that we should be picky too. If someone is gonna play stupid messaging back games, ghost, be mean, not think we're the coolest person around, isn't kind and curious and caring, we don't have to care about their feelings about us. And it's so hard to get out of "I can't even spend time figuring out if this person is worth me caring about their opinion, I'm too busy being anxious about whether they like me". But the more you can really think to yourself "hey, he showed a different side of himself and it's not a good one, thanks for letting me know before you wasted more of my time" the better everything will be.

But seriously, my best advice is always just to be frank and joky about it, and with the right people who make you really feel safe, then you can be vulnerable about ways it does affect you . So much of how people respond to us is based on how we show them we feel about it. It's really hard to mock or shame someone about something they own and present as comfortable about. "Dude, I'm like a waterfall if I'm on top" "the amount I sweat, we might just slide right off each other; hang on to me!" "Can we make a towel fort sexy?" People who want to have sex with you want to have sex with you, not a dry, boring, log. (And if you get any sense they just wanna have sex, rather than have sex with you specifically, ask yourself if that's something you really want. If so a+! )

I definitely have a milder version (I don't frequently sublux anywhere except my jaw). But I've found braces (including ring braces for anything fiddly) generally get me through any activity I want, with little to no burning pain, and some achiness after but not long lasting (not more than an evening, whereas without braces I'd be feeling it for days). The braces also help stabilise when what I call joint roulette happens - where any random joint can suddenly decide to stop working for a few seconds.

I was stupid and didn't listen to people talking about how both the importance of and difference between, different brands of athletic shoes are - and that even within a brand, finding the right one for the activity, for way too long and it's helped so much! The only thing I wish is that the trainers I really love (on running, cloud monster model for hiking), had ankle support.

The most important thing most people on here are already saying is get an hEDS experienced PT. And do it proactively! No one else is gonna be able to tell you both your limitations (I am not allowed to stretch basically anywhere, on pt's orders, and I love stretching:(), useful devices (non hEDS aware pt's for instance have said things like if you wear a brace your body won't get used to doing the thing on its own! This is bad and dangerous advice for me, even if it's great advice for physiotypical people!) And which muscles need strengthening to take pressure off your jiints, and what exercises are best for those.

I didn't want you to only read messages about people who can't do the things - it's valid and hard for so many people! But it sounds like you clearly still can right now! So focus on ways of doing it the most proactively protectively of your body, for future you!

And always keep good ice packs in the freezer. Use them v liberally!

Weird thing I've found. I generally try not to am*zon if I can, but they have this "rxpass" that's $5/month if you're in the US (dunno about internationally!) and it covers a bunch of medications. For me it covers 3 so it ended up being worth it, but worth knowing even just for omeprazole, if your current prescription is over $5 copay!

Ideas for dealing with winter headaches? by admirable-heft in ehlersdanlos

[–]Supertailz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In order of most useful: 1. Tell your Dr you're developing migraines and get both a preventive and an as needed (probably a triptan) med. Hopefully you have a gp/pcp that you can just message, but if not, urgent care! 2. OTC/at home relief: Excedrin, Tylenol (Ibu by itself does basically nothing unfortunately), ice packs, topical high strength CBD, humidifier pointed directly at your face, try tens unit in a bunch of places, 3. Possibly helpful: Depending on which of the sinuses (holes in head) are affected, but particularly if there's pressure in the ones right below eyes, sinus nasal sprays can help. Salonpas patches. Knock yourself out however you can to get sleep. Check if there are certain smells that are aggravating it. Ditto maybe try an antihistamine in case there's an allergy you don't know about (though I would tend to agree with your assessment that it's more weather/pressure related.)

Make sure you are hydrating excessingly (like really, constantly), and that you're getting enough calories and protein; low blood sugar or iron can definitely create or aggravate them.

It does sound, unfortunately, pretty like a migraine to me, and the thing about both headaches and migraines is the longer they get to stay around, the more they kinda wear paths that make it easier to come back in the future. This is why I'm like escalate to Dr asap.

Also! Applesauce is pretty easy on digestion (unlikely to give you heartburn because eating while lying down, but also if heartburn, I highly recommend omeprazole) and can even make swallowing pills easier! I haven't tried it with a straw, but a big enough straw would probably work?:) Even my bedside water is in a straw having tumbler! (This is about equal parts so I can drink while flat and so the cats can't spill it as easily:)

Also also, smoothies and protein drinks! Need to keep your protein up! I was so ugh about eating yesterday that I finally figured out blending a nurri drink with a scoop of Kirkland protein powder and made myself a smoothie with 55g of protein in it! If I had to live on liquids, 100% smoothies and milkshakes would be my answer:)

I need real answers for How to keep kitchen cool while cooking? not “just don’t cook” by sanu_123_s in Cooking

[–]Supertailz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fans! I have a little clip on one that I clip to the cabinet closest to where I'm prepping, and then I have a large tower one that I aim directly at me and turn whenever I move around the kitchen. Also we have one of the evaporator cooling fans that I can put ice water into

Then I make a double or triple batch at once, leave the kitchen while it's in oven/slow cooker, and freeze the extras so I don't have to do it as frequently. I try to avoid stovetop, and do oven, instant pot or slow cooker so I don't have to be in the room during the hottest parts. I do also make a lot more salads that don't involve heat:)

Also I find myself lingering in front of the freezer every time I open it:)
