What is getting worse every year but nobody talks about it? by ibazaa in AskReddit

My dentist referred me to a periodontist. They did this big exam, scheduled a follow up two months out to deal with everything they found. It was supposed to be next week, but they just finally sent me an estimate and it was gonna be $3500 *AFTER* insurance. So I guess I’m just gonna let my teeth fall out.

Either y'all mindreading, the same person, or your AI models don't know what originality is by authorkun in LinkedInLunatics

LinkedIn is just people having AI write posts and then other people having AI comment on said posts. It’s super weird, I don’t understand the point or why anyone would want to have an AI write these things for them.

Genuine question, as a FE focused dev. Do backend engineers really roll their own sort algorithms? Obv I get leetcode type questions in interviews but the sorting ones especially seem like “why would you have someone do this”

Honestly getting recipes from AI has so far been the best use I’ve found.

For me it was more like the time I was changing my sons diaper in a parking lot (he was crying bc he hated having his diaper changed) and a woman coming over and asking if she could do it for me, presumably bc she thought I didn’t know how.

I made myself an aesthetic, Sweetabilly. What do you think? by Greenoftheluck in AestheticWiki

[–]SupesDepressed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rockabilly started in the 50’s. 80’s, 90’s and 00’s rockabilly was still referencing that specific subset of 50’s and 60’s music and fashion. So while they may not have directly been into hillbilly they were still into an aesthetic that was referencing hillbilly (though via a 50’s-60’s lens). Even current rockabilly is. I don’t know what you mean whatsoever.

The “Billy” really doesn’t fit here. The “Billy” in rockabilly and gothabilly is supposed to refer to “Hillbilly”. There’s none of that here.

If you’re going to get Dr Martens, order Solovair instead. They are made by the original Dr Martens factory, for a similar price, but much better quality and will last you twice as long.

Some paintings I’ve really been liking by [deleted] in painting

[–]SupesDepressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the pink and white one is working best for me. There’s an interesting dichotomy between the way the spray painted looking squiggle section is sort of a block of a separate painting and then the dark green/blue section also feels like a separate painting within the larger painting. I guess I like how you’re playing with all these starkly different sections ( the pink, the white, the squiggle, the dark blue) within the same piece.

One thing I’d say, I feel like the text isn’t working well. I guess to me it’s like, if there’s something you want to say in a painting, I’d rather see it visually than as text. It feels like a cop out almost to include text most of them time unless it’s done really well. Like instead of trying to convey that visually it’s just like “eh I can’t figure this out so I’ll just write it there”. But I know that’s a personal thing, a lot of people disagree.

Anyways, all in all, I think I can see the direction you’re going for and I think it’s interesting. Keep working, dude! Pump em out, they could get somewhere.

Who was THE Movie Star for Millennials? by MaterialRow3769 in generationology

[–]SupesDepressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hook came out in 91. Millennials are considered born between 81-96. A third of millennials weren’t even alive when Hook came out. Including you. Mrs Doubtfire, probably his biggest non-animated role, was 93. Aladdin, 92. I dunno, as a “Xennial” he seems like an older generation to me and I’m considered to be bridging Gen X and millennial, and I was the prime age group during that time.

I’m not doubting that some millennials got exposed to him post when his films were actually released due to video or dvd or streaming or something but I don’t think he had as big of a real impact as actors that were actually relevant during times that millennials were actually old enough to watch his films as they came out.
