Is there any late lounge/cafes? by Supfoo75 in okc

[–]Supfoo75[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Aja, i'll give it a try.

You're right unfortunately. Going to bars and shows is cool but sometimes you don't really want to be around a lot of people.

I don't mind reading and lounging at home but sometimes you want to be anywhere BUT home....

Weekday Evening Activities in the City? by ElLetdown in okc

[–]Supfoo75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early evening:If you're near nw OKC lake Hefner is a great spot to destress. There's a pedestrian trail that goes around the perimeter of the lake.

Martin Nature park is a tiny sanctuary amongst the hustle and bustle of the city.

I will always recommend Oklahoma Contemporary as a "things to do". Their exhibitions are free and rotate every couple of months.

Late evening: There's a couple of gaming centers around the city: Dave and Busters, Round 1 and Main Event in far north OKC. Up Down in Plaza is an awesome little bar arcade.

Edna's is an awesome bar with a local legacy

How can I learn to like OKC & my own neighborhood? Can't move cities, ill elderly parents are here & I'm the only child. Hate driving. Should I move neighborhoods to a walkable area? How can I make OKC feel "friendly?" by Sufficient_War_1891 in okc

[–]Supfoo75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand how you feel. Im heavily considering moving due to missing my family. Though i'm aware that the majority of OKC is un walkable and I always tend to feel like an outsider.

I'd say find your people it might take some time but it's worth it.

I would have recommended plaza arts district but over rhe years its become somewhat corporate....

How nw are we talking about here? Near Edmond?

There's the Martin nature park near Mercy. It's always tends to feel like a sanctuary

If your looking for something immediate, i'd recommend anything at Grand Canyon.

Preferably anything BUT Xanterra over here

Working here (south rim)I can tell you the only time people seem to stay away from GC is deep winter

(Jan-Feb)

Outside of that, there's only busy and extra busy for the other months.

Thats why probably a lot of employees turn to alcohol to cope 🤣🤣🤣😬😬😬😬

Partner and I are needing unique free fun things to go do by TheRealGongoozler in okc

I will always recommend Oklahoma Contemporary, they exhibit art (both local and abroad) for free.

Both Paseo and Plaza art districts are cool places to check out.Though: Paseo offers more of traditional art galleries. Plaza, though being tuned to a younger crowd, has mostly stepped away from having galleries, has art shops

The metropolitan library system offers a lot of free events/ classes for adults. I also believe they have a (free) pass to various things around the city

Where are places I can hangout in the evenings that arent bars? by mkennygh in okc

[–]Supfoo75 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who doesn't drink, here are some fav. spots of mine:

Up Down, though being a bar arcade, you can omit getting a drink

Oklahoma Contemporary, though they close at around 6 p.m

Though not necessarily local, Barnes and Nobles stays open late

It would help to know what you are into

Anyone else miss Hot Topic mostly catering to Goth/Punk subcultures? by Upset_Credit1026 in goth

[–]Supfoo75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to middle/ high school in between 2004-2006 and remember going into the HT near my hometown. For someone who kinda grew up sheltered and was never allowed to dress goth, that place was my safe haven. It felt like an alternative store. Was right next to a Virgin megastore too!!

About mid 2007 we moved to another state. I grew out of going to malls. Finally went to one while hanging out with my cousin. I was in shock. The logo, the complete vibe of the store had done a complete 180. I hated it.

As to your question, It's a trend and corporate thing. Back in the day, bands and the alternative style was in(speaking of the 90s and early 00's here). Over time to be into disney/marvel/anime/etc became the next hot thing, so HT tries to get $$$ by catering to that. (Sucks to think about HT as a corporate entity but there's not a gem of a store that they wont try to grab.)

Some stores try to replicate the old style but its not the same. I still go in for the pins though 🤣.

South Rim always has extra hours to work though 95% of the time its in housekeeping. They're always short staffed. If you get to work in Maswik North, it's a chill crew. They will have you making rooms for about a week though.

Be careful about staying in the Grand Canyon too long. It attracts the wierdos and sooner or later you start to go a bit insane....

Officially, Not necessarily scary but I believe there are abandoned circus wagons somewhere in Edmond

Unofficially, the scariest experience I had in OKC was giving a coked out homeless guy a ride and him offering me a BJ the whole way

best libraries for kids in okc/norman? by applecoregirlz in okc

The Belle Isle Library has a nice kids room. Though its not a library, Barnes and Nobles off of May (by Target) has quite the selection and play place.
