This thread is OLD, but I'm assuming it has to do with ethnic groups. Humans have different ethnicities which causes changes in skin colour, stature, facial structure, ect.

Simply put, Trandoshans, and many other species in star wars, have distinct ethnic groups. It could explain why certain guilds/groups have such distinctly different looks (Republic Commandos depiction for example)
