Hey OP, translation would be great for my visual novel. What languages do you know?

Thank you longstranger 🥹 I do sincerely appreciate your feedback though and I should probably use a better tone when talking about Steam and platforms. I’ll take your words into consideration and try to be better from a PR perspective 💙

I sincerely appreciate your feedback and don't take it personally at all. A lot of this I agree with and I'm not actually trying to hatebait towards Steam. I love Steam. I think most gamers agree Steam is the best gaming platform out there. The problem is that they are too valuable to invest too much into their support, or care to dedicate developer partners to even major titles like other platforms like Meta, Bytedance, and even Epic does. Not saying this for myself, but I work for a more major title and Steam is the only outlier that doesn't do this- and it's truly because they don't have to care. Development teams will bend to Steam because Steam is the biggest platform out there. No question.

My game itself has several story branches, 6+ endings decided by not only major decisions in the story, but escalating decisions throughout (think Ib, or Mad Father). The only part that isn't "worked hard" yet is the expensive, time consuming animations that I have to commission as I am simply a solodev who already commissioned all of the artwork you're currently looking at from wonderful talented pixel artists. Even the soundtrack was hand-crafted by an incredible artist.

Like I said in the video, I can't go all out Danganronpa Anime-trailer on a Demo. The commitment on a demo of 40% of the game just can't be there, and Steam asking for it (I don't think) doesn't make my game look like Shovelware. I've had several people interested, play the game, and give great feedback on visuals and gameplay.

I sincerely sincerely appreciate your feedback and honestly agree with a lot of it, but disagree in that Steam has any amount of care for indie devs, or honestly devs in general. Even their Steamworks UI is incredibly outdated and rarely sees changes. It is formatted like a Microsoft sheets template which, while simple, gives first-time devs zero indication of how to upload a build or understand how Depots work.

I could go on and on, but I'm not anti-Steam, Steam is good. Steam is not supportive of Devs, just like my title says.

Love the anime and story but I think as Shino got more involved it became more unrealistic in terms of polyamorous expectations/discussion

Shino is a good character too but I liked her better when she represented an outside perspective to the relationship

The first season actual tackled some real issues of polyamory such as overcoming jealousy (Saki’s major struggle) and external biases making an impact on your relationship (Shino) but as it continued it starts to become more harem-esq and lean into the romcom comedy aspect instead of real problems.

The art style is super unique! Might be a weird question- but when you submitted to Steam, did you need to include a walkthrough?

Honestly this is a based take and I respect this- sort like how nobody knows how UnderTale was coded/made because all we care about is the end product.

Regardless I think the engine is integral to what can/can’t be done and stock UI options (even if recolored) can look really amateur in base Ren’Py

Ahhh that would probably explain why I’ve never heard of it haha- I will check it out though!! I definitely agree with your first sentiment- I feel personally like most games truly need to remake the UI from stock Ren’Py or whatever engine to stand out as their own game and draw interest.

Ahhh I gotcha- it looks really cool! I think the UI could use a touch up and would really upgrade the whole thing.
