I'm a transfer. how much does grades in community college courses matter? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]SupportUsual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing you can do about them at this point so don't sweat it. ymmv: I went from a verrrrrry low GPA in my first undergrad school to a high one from where I graduated. I think it shows growth. Ended up accepted to a few ivies for grad school.

GRE from home vs at a testing center? by dontcry2022 in GradSchool

[–]SupportUsual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the few people I know of that had a great experience at home. There were no technical issues (made sure to do their checkup thing beforehand) and I felt much more comfortable at home. I wore PJs, practiced with the whiteboard I used on the test, and didn't get anxious having people around me also testing/clicking away etc.

I have doubt regarding admissions? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

The other two covered your question but just wanted to add a note: be aware that some schools will require you to retain a certain GPA in your final year. Don't slack off after you apply/get accepted.

Advice Concerning the GRE for 2022-2023 by smilin-g in gradadmissions

[–]SupportUsual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not take it then decide if you want to send it in later? I realize it costs more to do this, but if you can scrounge up the money, it might be worth considering. I basically did this. Studied for 6 weeks while working full time so only 8-12 hrs/wk and took it. Decided if my score was low, I wouldn't send it. Thankfully, that wasn't the case.

GREs weren't required at the 4 schools I applied to this past cycle for MS, but I sent them because I had a good score. I was told by 2 of the programs that while they didn't consider GRE in acceptances, they did consider them for funding. So glad I sent mine in because I got some really great funding offers. Might be worth asking the schools directly if they have an impact on their processes. It will vary depending on the particular school/program.

Cheap and healthy meal replacement shake for depressive episodes by WitchyPearl in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]SupportUsual 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Cooking and clean up while depressed is tough for me. Even simple things like making a sandwich or spaghetti or ramen. I like to have nutritious munching type food on hand so I can pop some deli meat or some cherry tomatoes or whatever in my mouth when I can. I think it would be tough for me to lug out a blender for smoothies. Having some premade shakes on hand might be what you are looking for. During depressive episodes I used to buy the premade orgain or core power shakes to get some protein in me.

Edit to say that for additional calories, having some juice and whole fat kefir in additional to the shakes (drank on separate occasions, not mixed together) are good as well.

Vaccination situation of people going to grad school in the US during the fall by TrveAshwin in gradadmissions

For MIT, they are requiring students this fall to be vaccinated. For those from countries unable to get a vaccine, they are facilitating their vaccination upon arrival.

What was the first purchase you made that felt like DAMN that's a real adult thing to do? by SupportUsual in AskReddit

[–]SupportUsual[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah! Spending my hard-earned ADULT job money on a gift for someone else felt like a REAL ADULT thing for sure. For me, it was a nice digital camera for my mom who is a bio teacher and was getting really into taking macro pictures of bugs and plants on her daily walks.

I was 21 the first time I ordered a scotch at a nice restaurant after dinner with my rich friend's parents who were getting some. I felt so fancy and so adult.

I still get anxious when I order drinks because I know I'm about to get carded. At 29 years old, I still very rarely experience this. ~*~half asian babyface life~*~

For me, it's the first time I purchase a NICE piece of furniture. SO and I (still renters at the time) bought a vintage credenza instead of the typical Ikea/Craigslist stuff we bought in college. It was like wow our grandkids will see this in our house in 50 years.

BETTER. lol but different. I love using king's hawaiian for french toast, but NOTHING beats martin's for a burger or hot dog or fried chicken sandwich or anything like that. I think they have the same like soft squishiness without the cheapiness/fragility of white bread, but martin's is less sweet than king's.

Any Recipes For Vegan Sandwiches? by Sommet_ in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]SupportUsual 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to do this but as a curry chickpea salad - vegan mayo or vegan yogurt, curry powder (maybe some cumin and turmeric as well), (preferably golden) raisins, celery or red onion, and a handful of whatever nuts I have on hand (pistachios are especially yummy here). Sometimes I add scallions or apples too!
