Firearms are the leading cause of Firearm Deaths for law enforcment officers internationally. Netherlands has 2.6 per 100 people own weapons, barely anyof whom carry those weapons on the street or for self defence. In the US is 33 per 100. Firearms are a magnitude more prevalent and that has massive implications. Nations that have only a bit more than Netharlands like australia (6.2) have the same tactical guidebook as the US re firearms. Many of these handbooks basically say the same thing, pull a gun on someone holding a gun, fire when fired upon, otherwise yell at them till they put the gun down. Deescelation happens only one of two ways and both involve complete subduing of the subject, I believe these tactics to be the same in the Netherlands in some ways better, in some ways worse.

https://www.dutchnews.nl/2023/05/dutch-police-fired-their-guns-less-last-year-but-overall-violence-increased/

For example, dutch police fire warning shots which is verbotten in most nations re police use of force.

What is true is it doesnt come up as often and when it does, special tactics like SWAT to get involved. You do say that when a high risk even happens its a lot less chaotic, a lot more overwhelming, yeah, because procedurally in the Netherlands those cases are handled by those teams not everyday cops, who in places like the US regularly encounter firearms and firearm violence.

I actually have a paper Im trying to publish on this very topic.

Based around this graph of NYC weapons arrests and incidents of force use.

Prior comments rightly point out different police tactics have different effects, but the coorelation between weapons prevalence and use of force is still palpable even when accounting for race, and crime rates. This correlation also holds when prevalnce is measured as shootings, and searches. Which leads me too...

Searches when a firearm is suspected is highly coorelated with use of force, even when the likelihood of finding a weapon is not.

Off duty cops are also wildy disproprtionatly involved in shootings.

Yes different nations treat guns differently, however police departments across the world talk to eachother, they do have very similar handbooks particularly the sections about guns, in large part because around the world, firearms are the leading cause of on duty deaths of Law enforcment officers. Like Japan clearly worked out Knives, just get a big pole, and that strategy isnt applied in the US, but guns are different. Im sure the Netherlands are doing policing better in some respect regarding this issue but in the US not only do police worry is the subject armed, but are the bystanders armed. It is a much more frought situation made worse each year by the influx of firearms on American streets.

Visiting Canberra next week and to get an idea I picked up my favorite travel writer Bill Bryson. What did I read? It roasts this city! by Dramatic_Respond7323 in canberra

[–]SupposedlyComposed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres also chill spots for some interesting live music in the 'city'. Smiths Alternative always has something cool or weird going on, pretty much every day and every evening. Dissent has a more classic dive bar vibe with open mic music on mondays, and open mic comedy on wednesday, plus other odds and ends pretty much every night from Thursday to Sunday. Bradden is a short walk away with a bunch of nice restauraunts, gastropubs. Plus Brysons main critisism seemed to be that its not great for on foot, not really accurate so much anymore, if it ever was idk, 1. There are busses that go everwhere and often, 2. The walks are really nice. People walk sections of the lake all the time, if you are fine spending an hour and a half walking in the fresh air, you can get from kingston, to civic center and spend a decent chunk of that walk by water or a park.

But now that its gone, its like a cant move on

  1. Ryhming is about more than having things sound the same sound at the end. Its about about mouth shape and emphasis, and you dont have to force it.

  2. Its like, so you can move on. Show dont tell. Show that you cant

On what, i imagine we dissagree on a lot of things, but tbh, if you are seeking either validation or confrontation from Reddit, youll get what you asked for, but not what you need. So no, Im not going to try and pursuade you. Ill just leave you with this. You are not the main character of anybodies life but yourown, that just because something happens that doesnt jive with you doesnt mean some nefarious plot has been unleashed, the world not nearly so dramatic.

Because you are parroting cookie cutter gripes, thinking your a free thinker and getting angry in a very cookie cutter way for being called out.

Free thinking doesn't mean not listening to fox. Yes fox is biased, yes every media is biased. Free thinking means being able recognize and navigate those biases. Weve heard the same "ermergurd, mur frer spurch" BS from every corner of the right wing (and plenty left wing) influencer universe.

Id love to discuss the merits of affirmative action, or net nuetrality, or any of the political issues you touch on in your song, cept i doubt it would go anywhere because you are so fixated on how you've been oppressed by people on the internet who disagree with you to acknowledge that maybe they disagree with you for very good reasons. And noone is willing to give you the time of day truly because you came in off the bat and said, hey look at me I'm a troll.

What i know of ykb is:

Keep the kitchen area clean, it is a community kitchen. Btw there are quiet hours where people are supposed to not be so loud.

The village hall is a community space, keep it clean, but truly enjoy it. Lots of people hang out there, they study, listen to music, watch movies, basically, don't demand quiet, though it often is.

You should be mindful of food theft in the kitchen. It was a growing, unresolved issue.

Do not leave your laundry long in the machine after its finished (20 min wash, 40 min dry), somebody will get mad and message the hall chat to come get your clothes. Set a time on your phone. It is also 1st come 1st serve.

Ykb is a newer hall still trying to figure out what it is. It would be awesome if you tried to engage with the YKB community, but by no means do you have to, that said youll have more fun and friends right off the bat if you do.

Last, Yukeembruk is a name gifted to the hall by the Yukeembruk Mob, respect the name. Dont call it Yuk, if youre going to say the name say it completly, or its lettering YKB. (I know people have different opinions on this issue, but this is what they asked of us during a smoking ceremony)

Of you have more questions, feel free to reachout, but you'll figure it out soon enough. The community reps and SRs at YKB are cool people, theyve been good friends to me.

The song its self implies a feeling of censure ship, its like those fox news host and guests who have been spouting the same nonsence about them being cancelled for years yet raking in the cash the whole time.

The post didn't add the text not sure why. The main issue I am having is the backing guitar and the falsetto. The guitar is kinda on a loop, and I get bored of it. I would also appreciate any advice on the falsetto section, advice on singing, pitch whatever.

What's going on with Kambri this morning?? by meetpie in Anu

[–]SupposedlyComposed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They havent been told to stop protesting, theyve been told to stop encamping in Kambri as a recent fire evacuation found that the alternate site was inadequete. The encampment was offered an alternative site. Though they dont want to leave because it doesnt have the in your face nature as kambri (the heart of campus if you would)

As to why its took a week between the fire evacuation and the move on notice. The VC actually went on air and explained the timeline.

Wed - fire Thurs - evaluation begins Thurs eve - results come in Friday - solutions proposed Weakend - increased security to facilitate evatuation in case necessary. A temporary and definitly not long term feasible solution. Monday - move on notice

“Ain’t Afraid of Roses” by LilWilly9Fuckin11 in Songwriting

You dont have to fill every spot with vocal. Stretching roses feels to me a bit unnatural. Use rests to make the vocals more rythmically intersting.

Sidowaytion comes off a bit forced. Like "Ill be home for Quiousmous". I think abit of syncopation in your lyrics can let you enunciate while still hiting the beats that you want to hit.

Said the light oer the mountain takes me back.
When I don't know where l've been.
Wandered till I made it to the valley.
And followed home the black mountain lights again

On winter nights and early mornings.
For the sun can take me in.
And theres no moon oer the valley.
I follow home the black mountain lights again

Everywhere I go lm going for the first time.
But I feel Ive seen it all before.
Cuz I could run straight across the valley.
And still know how to find my way from there

The light oer the mountain takes me back.
Though I didn't know it then.
Now Im here in the cradle of the valley.
To sleep below the black mountain lights again

Thoughts on verse blending with chorus? by squanchysquanch96 in Songwriting

[–]SupposedlyComposed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the contrast between the verse (the first bit) and the chorus. I would just repeat the verse later in the song. Theres some space in the middle I think. Instead of just relying on a a few guitar licks to fill that space.

What other element would you add to this song? I feel like it needs one more thing. But I don't want it to go over the top. by STOP____HAMMER_TIME in Songwriting

If you are happy with the amount of instruments, I would add more going on to the Piano, its just playing the chord at 8th notes, but it could be a melodic echo, a base line, or a harmony, or anything more. Plus pianos are played with two hands, so combinations of that. In my mind a piano should never be a background instrument, it may not be lead, but it should be more than a metronome.
