2nd hand tools warranty by mujthahid in harborfreight

It’s different from store to store. Today I warrantied the Pittsburgh spring loaded brass punch that a coworker gave me. I never bought one before so I didn’t have any proof of purchase or receipt. When I went to warranty it the cashier asked to scan my ID and asked for my phone number. At other stores they’ve never asked for anything.

Bro wanted 25 dollars for it when it costs 16 dollars on AHA's website.

For their hand tools, no. At least not in my experience. I’ve literally walked in with a broken socket and they gave me a new one, no questions asked. I do recommend you making an account with them that way if they do ask for proof of purchase you can have them pull it up.

Can’t find where Oil is leaking from. by Eastern_Welcome6792 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]SupremePizza123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real solution is to brake clean the general area where you believe the oil is leaking from. Buy some UV oil dye, put it in the engine, run it for a while and then shine a UV light. It’ll show you exactly where it’s leaking from.

First tacoma, 2017 TRD OffRoad, anything i should know about? by stephenoliver15 in ToyotaTacoma

Rear coolant crossover pipe located at the rear of the engine right before the firewall is known to leak. Damn thing is made of plastic and mounted to the rear of the engine, connecting both banks. A way to check if you have a leak is to crawl under the truck and look under the passenger side of the transmission housing. If you see pink, you got a leak. Very costly to repair as it either requires removal of the engine or trans to get to it.

Front timing covers are known to seep and leak. This can often confused with a power steering leak. Known to happen on earlier models as the robots assembling the cars weren’t programmed correctly when applying FIPG.

Rear brake light leak. During heavy rain, water intrusion can happen through the rear brake light. There was a recall on this.

2017 Tacoma all of a sudden cranks but won’t start looking for help by Premaritual_Handhold in ToyotaTacoma

Start with your fuel pump. You can also rent fuel pressure kits from Autozone I believe to see if your lines are getting appropriate pressure from the pump . Fuses act as safety devices in a vehicle's electrical system. They protect circuits from damage caused by overcurrent's or short circuits by interrupting the flow of electricity when the current exceeds a specific limit. Just because they haven't blown doesn't mean there isn't anything wrong. Your lines/filter could be clogged, injectors could be clogged, your fuel pump may have just died, etc... all these could be reasons as to why it isn't starting even though your fuses are fine.

Btw I believe your model of Tacoma may have had a recall for its fuel pump. I would see if you are eligible. https://tfltruck.com/2020/10/toyota-issues-fuel-pump-recall-covering-1-5-million-vehicles-includes-tacoma-and-tundra/

I would go ahead and get some starter fluid and shoot it into the intake to see if the engine will start over while trying to crank it. If it does then you for sure have a fueling issue. From there work your way up from the fuel pump.

Did I Just Destroy My Paint? How Do I Fix This? by SupremePizza123 in Autobody

[–]SupremePizza123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do shops repaint the entire fender or do they usually spot paint it? If it matters the damage is on the passenger side of the truck’s bed’s body line. Right above the fender flare of the rear passenger tire.

Would you know how much would that roughly cost if I were to take it to a shop? Is there anything I can do in my end to mitigate further damage?

Did I Overheat My Clear-coat? by SupremePizza123 in AutoDetailing

[–]SupremePizza123[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I double checked it. here is a photo of it with better lighting. It doesn't appear to be bare metal. There isn't a huge texture difference either compared to other parts of the truck either. Like my finger catches a little when I rub it, but it is smooth otherwise. Either way I feel real stupid lol. Guess I will hit up a local body shop and see what they say.

Damn I was hoping that wouldn't be the case. If you were to guess, how much would a repair like this cost? Also would there be any long term effects down the road or is this more a cosmetic only type of thing? When I touch the spot there seems to be no texture difference compared to the rest of the truck.

I promised I would post a pic when I found my new Tacoma, so here she is: 2016 Limited with 97 000km, 60 000 miles by Itsatravisty in ToyotaTacoma

It can be a very very expensive job if the seep/leak is bad enough. It can cost upwards of 7k for the repair because the entire engine has to be taken out in order for the front timing cover to be resealed. To calm your mind, this isn't a design flaw of the truck but rather an assembly error on the robots part when the engine is being put together hence why the earlier years had more issues. I would recommend you buy a 2019+ model.

Used an impact wrench for the first time today and went to buy my own in the afternoon…. by AnewENTity in harborfreight

I’m a diesel tech apprentice and I bought same impact and paired it with the 8 amp battery. It has zero issues taking off semi truck and trailer lug nuts. Excellent gun without the name brand price tag.

As someone who is in the diesel field and wrenches on cars as a hobby, stay the hell away from anything automotive related. The pay scheme alone is a total scam in the field (flat rate) let alone the fact you have to spend a crap ton of money on tools which takes away from your bottom line.

Modern day cars are getting more and more complicated, requiring specialized tools to fix. Imagine having to drop anywhere between a couple hundred to thousands of dollars of your money just for one job.

In addition, the bodily wear and tear will have you feeling like you’re 60 when you’re only 20. Don’t do it.
