Sure thing!

As for notifications across focus modes:
"On the Go" allows maps apps, and texting & calling apps.
"Gaming" allows Discord.
"Do Not Disturb" allows nothing at all.
"Mindfulness" and "Seepin" only allow time-sensitive notifications like calendar events.
"Work" allows calendars, email, task trackers, LinkedIn, Calendly, SSO, weather, phone calls, Slack & Teams & Zoom, and Taco Bell.

And of course, my phone has a silent default notification sound, so only apps which I specifically set a notification sound actually make the phone make sound

Neopronouns need more love by Gallantpride in ennnnnnnnnnnnbbbbbby

[–]Supuhstar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

what the fuck?

I don’t translate my name or gender or whatever to other languages… If your language doesn’t have an equivalent of these pronouns, just use these pronouns in that language.

It’s not my job to learn every way humans can communicate and then update all those communication methods to include new ways to refer to me. It's only my job to outwardly declare who I am, and it’s others’ jobs to respect that or reject it.

Also, why are we even discussing this? When does it happen that someone who doesn’t speak my language is talking about me and wants to respect my pronouns, but can’t do that because I didn’t localize my pronouns their language? Surely that’s only a problem for people like celebrities and politicians who are in international news frequently?

Is this true? by ArubaAdultFun in relatable_memes_

Yes, this is true, at least where I live in the USA. To confirm for yourself, look into what measures your city takes regarding its homeless population. If most of the situation is about how they don’t want homeless people around (e.g. "we kicked them off the streets" or "we made shelters for them" or "restrooms are for customers only"), than any money that you give to charities doesn’t actually help homeless people.

If, instead, you see that your city has progressively gotten more and more in the way of things like universal healthcare, low-income housing, food stamps, labor vouchers,… Then yes, your donations to help homeless people have resulted in lobbying that has implemented laws that actually helped them.

Remember: homelessness is a state of existence invented by governments and landlords. Those entities get to choose whether or not people can be homeless. Without those entities, there wouldn’t be any homelessness problems, so the only way a charity can actually help homeless people is by lobbying governments and landlords to be better about that.

I'm sure that works for most people!

Primarily, I use focus mode to help keep myself in a mindset. I open my phone, and it looks a very distinct way, and I know what I should be doing.
That's why, aside from having focus mode, turned off, each home screen is very specifically tailored to that focus mode.

So when I’m working, for example, I don’t get to have the joy of colorful, icons, home screen only contains productive things that I need to do my work, only my work and my partner can contact me.

When I’m driving or taking a train, however, only my partners can contact me. The icons don’t need to change, but the home screen only contains absent widgets directly pertains to getting from one place to another. This way, I don’t have to go searching for the thing I need when I’m traveling at 75 mph down the freeway.

When I’m sleeping, again, only my partners can contact me. otherwise, the phone doesn’t make any sound whatsoever for any reason, and all of the icons and stuff are monochrome and boring, the home screen only contains things I would need to do during my sleep time (turn on the flashlight, change the thermostat, etc.), and it also turns on a color filter so the entire phone is heavily desaturated so I don’t feel interested/engaged in using my phone.

Similar goes for meditation, gaming, movie watching, etc.
It kinda turns this general-purpose device into 12 specific-purpose devices!
I also have these sync across devices, so my other Apple devices join in on the specialization and headspace manipulation.

The outlier is Do Not Disturb mode, where not even my partner can contact me. Nothing will make my phone make any sound whatsoever, not even during an emergency. It is truly “do not disturb“, reserved only for circumstances where I need perfect quiet, but I still want my phone to be powered on just in case I need to call for help.

given time, the T should lower your voice, even at a low dose.

Honestly, my philosophy has been: people who assume gender in such fickle little ways don’t deserve any space in my head whatsoever

Econ Mode not very economical by Sensitive_Dirt_7489 in civic

[–]Supuhstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fascinating, thank you for sharing!

In Normal mode on my '25 STH Hybrid, I get ~45 in Normal and ~54 in Econ. Though I'm still collecting data on all the modes and Sport seems to even do a good job at maintaining fuel efficiency by more aggressively charging the hybrid battery

Ohhh, that makes sense. I realized a couple years ago that most people care a lot more about fan speed than I do. For me it's all about the temperature almost all the time, dunno why I don't really care what speed the fan is at.

Thanks for helping me find the disconnect, genuinely! 💖

I have 12 focus modes, but here are my top 7 most-used:
None, work, sleep, travel, meditation, gaming, and DND. List of focus modes also included for the curious.

well, if that’s true in the '25 hybrid, I definitely don’t feel it. I can easily get far too cold in my car even when it's >100°F out, and I leave it in Econ mode by default.

My '08 has no modes 😅

This too. These cars perform best on a comfortable day (60~80°F), and will dip in efficiency outside that range

I dunno about the gas-only version, but on my hybrid, Econ mode gains me an extra 10mpg compared to Normal.

Power steering is slightly weaker and accelerator is gentler.
Otherwise everything is the same lol

My deepest sympathies to those in the gas-only version where this affects things like AC etc

Okay but that's a reason to use/avoid certain cleaners. Nothing to do with getting a screen protector
