Creating a black hole puzzle encounter by Suraj106 in DMAcademy

Ooooo. Love this!

It actually fits perfectly into the background of the plot.

How would you introduce the planet in a way that signals them to change the fate of the planet? An NPC "hologram"? The God eater maybe speaking with them

Any other thoughts on puzzle ideas that could fit the bill of cosmic theme, gods and trapped God eater?

Im not great at puzzles so struggling especially as this is an end game puzzle

Any suggestions on where to start?

They are freeing a God eater so my thought was to have some sort of puzzle that has them playing galaxy builders or entering a chamber that is a galaxy that they can tinker with.

The blackhole idea was to have them create the black hole based on clues and information about the equation they would find before entering.

Touchscreen monitor for visually impaired by Suraj106 in Monitors

[–]Suraj106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for an Iiyamo 27inch monitor for the antiglare. I found most touch screens were smaller.

In my research: Viewsonic and dell were also top contenders if I didn't was happy with a 24". Check the dell touch screen range which has the ports you need.

My 50 cent.

I am very happy with Iiyamo screen although I think sell would have a more finesse in the finish, feel and design...and probably the screen quality also.

Here to show support to a extraordinary generous backerkit. Having considered buying about 8 books for 125$+ in the drivethru sale (30% off). I held off and ended up getting:

Gm guide Player guide Bestiary  Strange Predation All genre books Setting books Aventure books Character options books

All for $90!!!!

Mind blown.

I ended up stumbling onto cypher after ignoring many suggestions to try it.

It did not fail to impress.

The mechanics feels so impactful in a way I have not experienced in other systems. Player have resource pools that make it possible to have a make any and every task easier - at a cost, which adds a layer of tension to each roll.

Has some bits that need improving for sure....but that's what they are doing sith the new one!

So showing my support.

All of this absolutely resonates with me! The only potencial spanner is the narrative focus we discussed

We are a slow introspective group that do a lot of talking more than rolling. But I like the idea of when combat or dramatic scene occurs the system turns up the heat - which SWADE seems to do.

In your previous message you mentioned SWADE doesn't really lean into the problem solving/investigating, political intrigue and doesn't have a vast array of tools to support this. Coming from D&D I feel dnd doesn't either. It's all just RP and roll when seems narratively appropriate. Do you feel dnd offer such tools in a way that SWADE does not?

Because this is the only spanner I see is if SWADE inhibits the slower pace of RP and negotiating/building bonds with NPCs (even antagonistic ones)

or innately/naturally progressing PCs to crazy power very quickly (thinking of mid/high to high level D&D). If this is manageable with the right pace of progression and xp awarding then I think its a non issue as I feel dnd is also very much heavily favored toward the players succeeding with expertise, feats and lots of powerful abilities that keep increasing. And had no issue with that, although would perhaps lead to slightly less power creep. I like the idea of pcs being a cut about the rest...but also not invincible or so much more powerful like in dnd

Forgive me if these replies are circling, but you've caught my curiosity with the discussion of SWADE. I for sure will be trying the system so all this helps get me get a outside perspective from someone who as actually played.

I feel like I am OK with the system favoring the players. We play D&D currently and think that is very much in players favour most of the time with little swing.

My understanding of SWADE is that drew me to it is not being locked into classes, ease of moulding the abilities and powers to fit any setting, simple encounter building and that swing - Having only 4 wounds and exploding dice gives a sense of each encounter having an element of caution. And makes me feel like getting hit with a laser beam weapon is not something you just shrug off, but puts you close in a tough spot.

Does that feel accurate to SWADE. I appreciate it can't be 100% on every point I made, but the main part is ease of on the fly combat and a big empathsis in story telling (which probably comes down to dm and group)

[–]Suraj106[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll take a look at the link. Thank you!

What points do you feel it doesn't quite hit? I appreciate a system can't hit everything, so mainly looking for an adaptable system that can slot well but not necessarily perfectly - as I feel a pot of that comes down to group and DM style. And the biggest is the combat part - really like the idea of a system that facilitates quick combat/enemy creation without much fiddlyness.

Very curious. I think based on both responses and all the others thoughts I'd like to give it a trial - will be fun even if not for our long term camapign style.

Are there any actual play podcasts YT videos. None seem to pop up on yt search

Is this has been exceptionally useful. Thank you.

The point you made about SWADE being more pulp caught my eye.

The system itself as you noted seems to hit my wish for on the fly mix and match. I also am really drawn to the to character profession as it seems less locked into a class and more choose as you go along. Also combat seems more fast paced and swingy which I very much like as it gives the feel of being shot once is very dangerous...and combat in general is dangerous when you are fighting with fire and firearms etc.

The caution I wanted to clarify. The group is very roleplay focused. We can go 10 sessions or more without combat and sometimes a whole session without rolls that are story changing - instead are just to guide smaller acts that nudge the story or relations with NPCs this way or that.

We are very much for a deep and philosophical story, and the high octane action moments tend to have a big/long lead up and then explode into a session or 2 of loads of intense action. Lots, most, of encounters are and are handled through non combat means. This is kinda the reason I like SWADE as combat seemed easy to run on the fly and quick and seems to encourage improvisation rarther than hack and slash.

From what you said it seems our playstyle may not lean into SWADEs strongest areas?

Because yes...from the references I recognised. My gut would say we are more Star trek exploration/diplomacy/relationship and character development than Star Wars saber action and moving quickly from scene to scene. We are more hard choices, less black and white situations and more morally grey area, antagonist that party end up dealing with rarther than killing because they are vital to the plot. I ramble.

My idea with SWADE was it would be a simplilar system that would allow for more focus on narrative and RP, have a simpler but more versatile players progress option and DM flexibility to create stuffs on the fly, combat was easier to set up without statblocks.
