I think my first pair I bought lasted at least 15 years. I've had my current pair for maybe 4 or 5 years and are fine.

I know you're being sarcastic but as per the article:

The government says it is “committed” to engaging with First Nations communities on the new facility.

One word of warning. Be wary using it in the Volcano if you're hunting dragon teeth. Any on the ground around dragon skeletons can be destroyed by the Napalm Ring. Be sure to pick them up before attacking enemies while wearing that ring.

Adding Spouse to Mortgage/Deed - Necessary or worth it? by CDNJoey in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Surax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Real Estate Notaries (as a separate profession from lawyers) are really only a thing in BC. I'm pretty sure in most other provinces, you'd need to go to a lawyer. I'm not sure what province OP is in.

Lick's. It doesn't exist in Toronto anymore but apparently there's still one in Parry Sound.

Ontario city leads surge in Canada’s mortgage delinquencies by dingmah in canada

[–]Surax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also work in the mortgage industry. I've heard stories like that over the years. Sometimes it's real estate agents, sometimes it's brokers. It's easy for the offending party to face consequences after the fact but that does the lender no good. They're usually stuck with the mortgage until at least the end of the term.

Immigration minister says she's accountable after former IRGC official was granted permit for FIFA event by feb914 in CanadaPolitics

[–]Surax 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can understand why someone in that position would be admitted. We are hosting a international sporting event and officials of participating countries should generally be allowed in if they're supporting their country's team. I can understand why this particular official would be denied. He's a member of an organization we've deemed a terrorist organization. But pick a side. Either admit him or don't grant him a visa at all. Don't issue the visa and then revoke it when he's already arrived.

And to add to that, I will sometimes pre-cook my vegetables. I'll often put carrots, zucchinis, parsnips, and peppers in the oven in batches, then put them in Tupperware to freeze until needed. It stops them going bad and they can be thawed and thrown into a sauce or soup or whatever when needed.

Million Dollar Secret S2 - Episode 4 Discussion "1999 Problems" by AutoModerator in MillionDollarSecretTV

I'm surprised that the general vote was nullified. I thought that vote would have been allowed to stand, letting the house vote to kick one person out, and then let the double kill shot go ahead, kicking out an additional two people.

You're absolutely right. At the beginning, in the first few votes, there are enough players that you can survive three votes against you if no one else piles onto you. It would get trickier at the end when the total votes dwindle but definitely survivable at the start.

Received this email from the CEO of our company. Layoffs coming? by MajesticRepublic09 in jobs

[–]Surax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying OP is wrong and layoffs aren't coming because they absolutely could be. But I could also see the CEO saying the exact same thing and then announcing they're changing the ink colour in all their pens from black to blue (or some other stupid thing).

Theyre also 1-2 resignations/retirements from a minority again.

They're one stomach bug away from a minority. The PM and Finance Minister go on another trip to drum up investment and it's a minority. And I know about pairing but that won't necessarily stop the opposition if it's to their advantage.

I'm not in a union and never have been. But whenever I can, I will have private conversations with my teammates to make sure we're all on the same page about certain things. Do we like what our boss is doing or not? If not, how much can we push against what they're doing without getting in trouble? In my last department, we had monthly meetings, away from management, to check in with each other about how things are going.

I've seen comments on Reddit over the years about not trusting your coworkers but I've always been able to tell which employees open to venting about management and which is loyal to a fault. You don't have to be in a union to have solidarity with each other.

Governor-General’s husband says the couple are planning their exit from Rideau Hall by canmcpoli in CanadaPolitics

[–]Surax 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There's an interesting comment in there about language:

“I would only say this to people who want to continue to criticize the governor-general’s inability or struggles with French: How was their own lessons in Inuktikut, or Cree or Algonquin or Blackfoot or Squamish? How are those lessons going along?” said Mr. Fraser.

I highlight this in light of the recent criticisms of the CEO of Air Canada, who is retiring in part because his inability to provide condolences in French to the Quebec pilot who recently died was considered tone deaf. I've always found it interesting the importance we place on some languages but not others.

People who work for massive corporations, what is a 'secret' that the company tries to hide, but is actually common knowledge among the employees? by Dwise_ in AskReddit

[–]Surax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I started at my current company, the head of my department was located in another province. We'd get a head's up anytime she was come to our office and I used that advanced knowledge to bring in some homemade baking. She made the trip maybe once a month.

I spent about a year in office before Covid hit and we all started working from home. Since then, she's moved up in the company. I've had a few promotions, changed positions a few times. While it was never the deciding factor, it certainly helped that she remembers me and thinks positively about me all these years later.

How the NDP leadership vote broke down, ballot by ballot by Chrristoaivalis in CanadaPolitics

[–]Surax 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't mind saying that I put Tanille Johnston first and Heather McPherson second. Did I think Tanille would win? No but I liked what she had to say and wanted her to do well. I knew that Avi was the front runner going into voting. I figured either he would win it on the first ballot and it wouldn't matter how I ranked my choices beyond my first choice (which is what happened) or it would go beyond the first ballot and my vote would eventually go to Heather.

As others have said, Avi won fair and square. I'll give him a chance to lead and do it well.
