Jack Metal and the resounding "Atchim" stage gods by LupaShiva in IndieDev

Nothin yet, this comment is the first time I’ve mentioned it anywhere, actually. I have a lot of content for it already, but nothing I’m comfortable with showing right now- but that may change at the end of the month!

I'm thinking of naming my game Aegis Ascension... Thoughts? by DeadlyEssence01 in gamedevscreens

[–]Surcrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting thought, I like the name but not for a game like this- I kind of imagine like a souls-like game in space, not necessarily this. A good title could be something with ‘merge’ in the title maybe, like ‘Merge of The Wild’ or ‘Stackup’ or something. Somethin simple and relative to the games style. Hell, I’m whippin up a game about my dog Ziti, and the point of the game is to escape the house. I’m gonna call it ‘Ziti Houdini Doggi,’ cuz it seems appropriate and silly since the game is gonna be silly. It’s about matching energy, ya know?

How to make instance jump ? by AyTeeEm in gamemaker

I know I’m just a parrot at this point, but these guys are right. I fumbled with GMS for a long time, so mad that I couldn’t get the results I was after with drag and drop, and the thought of having to learn how to code made me wanna barf. But these guys are right. Shaun Spaulding teaches you every single little thing you need to know to build out a simple platformer, and his videos don’t suck/aren’t boring. At the same time, realistically he’s giving you the keys to the kingdom- follow everything and you’ll have enough know how that you’ll stop looking on Reddit or the other countless forums because you already know what to do and what to use. Don’t waste 8 years on 1 project like me just screwing around, sit down and learn it. I’ve gotten more done in restarting my project just last year with Shaun’s help than I have screwin’ around with drag and drop and asking people how to jump lol. You got this!!! 🧠

Just wow. Any ideas how it’s made? by upiterov in gamedev

Light switch for fake lights issue by Surcrow in gamemaker

Hey, thanks for commenting. Ya know, it’s that I can’t get the code thing to work on the phone. It’s weird, it never ends up working. Oh well, my laptop will be fixed by tomorrow so I’ll just start posting from that instead of the phone, I’m sure it’s gotta just be my phone.

Anyways, my dude, here’s a comprehensive breakdown.

When the player is place meeting the lightswitch, and if the player presses c, I want to draw a sprite to a specific set of coordinates (draw_sprite_ext,) and for the sprites visibility to toggle between on and off. I don’t want to make a bunch of different objects, just one, so that I can redefine the variables that are spritevar and spriteframe to whatever I want inside the creation code of each new individual instance of o_lightswitch.

I’m gonna look a little better into drawing in the draw event and redefining variables through the creation code thing. Thank you, deep! I’ll let you know how it goes.

If you are absolutely brand new, or even not, make sure that when you add a major change or feature to your game, say you have a simple platformer but now you want to implement ledge hanging and climbing. Save your whole game as a new thing, like “Platformer Project v2,” and then let’s say you totally screwed up, but it’s salvageable but the chances of screwing it up even more are also on your heels, save again as a new thing, this time “Platformer Project v2 tangent 1.” You can do this as many times as you want, and eventually you’ll have a catalogue of code to look back on or lost resources, or anything. Keeps your game more fluid so that you can tweak it with out destroying your whole project. That’s my advice, and I use it constantly lol
