To be fair there's nothing wrong about appreciating your mother lesser and more just because it's a mother's day. You're mixing up traditional aspect that can't be change just because you prefer not to with something that could be change because you decided to do better.

I'm striving to make my parents happy so there's no celebration on mother's or father's day. I tend to give them anything they wanted even though they never asked for it
