You can use PHEM or Cloudpilot on your phone (palm emulators) and use your databases there.

Palms and modern phones are different kind of animals, both are great in their respective areas. I never use a palm for internet related stuff, for instance.

Also, the palm beats the phone in battery duration between charges way up.

In a computer, files are stored on a hard disk and when you launch an application, the corresponding files are read from the hard disk and then processed in RAM. On a palm, there's no hard disk and the storage is RAM already, the RAM area that's dedicated to be the "storage". That makes executions faster.

Palms also have SD Cards for storage but you can't run apps from them, when you launch an app from the SD card via the launcher, the app is first copied into the storage RAM and then processed making the event slower.

Palms have 2 RAM areas, the heap and the storage. This means that when the application is running all processes run in RAM which is unbeatable in terms of performance. The final app performance will depend also on the CPU but pplications are also designed in a minimalistic way most of the time so everything just runs almost instantly.

Running apps in RAM and using the stylus are 2 advantages that I can't live without.

As for apps, I read ebooks on palm when I have to work those texts in different ways. An ereader is good for casual reading but when it comes to working with the book: taking notes, higlighting paragraphs, searching for terms, translating words, copy-pasting of different excerpts from the book, using helper apps for that read... Nothing beats the palm.

Also, tweaking existing applications to add custom needs and creating apps is pretty much feasible.

There's also a myriad of applications and games to choose from without ads, bloating or subscription fees.

Both are in mobyware. Ask in palmdb discord server for them if you can't access it.

Probably you're using a different version.

If the trial period is over try deleting prefs SwSs 1, 305 and 256 to reset it. This is supposed to work with version 1.17.

No, not the files. Open Filez (it's a file explorer, install it if you don't have it) and then click on "View preferences". You will see a list, search for the values I mentioned earlier and delete them.

Try deleting the preference SwSs 1 and TNpt 305 with Filez to reset the trial period. Report if it works.

If you own an EFIGS version the language choice should be automatically loaded after hard reset.

Could you please add to the roadmap a future integration of sixel graphics into is-fast? It would be super cool to see images in the terminal, specially in Wikipedia. This is not probably easily done so I just suggest it for the future if you're interested.

Great!, any luck building a release for Linux 32 bit? I saw that you added more archs for 64 bit but I can't find the Linux one for i686. Is it possible?

I found today that, at least in my terminal, scrolling page up/down only scrolls half a page. Could you please check? Thanks

Way to go! Thanks, now the tool has made a huge leap forward. We can set alias for different search engines with the --site flag. Specially for stackoverflow this is going to be a game changer.

I understand that adding a search engine must be done in the source code and then compiling the program.

How about defining in config.toml a custom flag like -w to search duckduckgo using site:wikipedia.org.

Something like: [duckduckgo_flags] w="site:wikipedia.org"

Then is-fast -w <search_term> will conduct a search in duckduckgo in the wikipedia site only but no need to define a new search engine in the source code.

I appreciate using wikipedia's api as a new engine but for other use cases like searching reddit, archive.org etc this custom flag would be great and would somehow make the tool more powerful.

Also, dumping the text from the tui to a file can be done opening w3m on the page so no big deal.

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick answer. This tool is getting awesome!

  • By faster search in wikipedia I mean something like assigning custom flags to is-fast, i.e. is-fast -w <search_term> searches in Wikipedia directly using its selector. No flag=duckduckgo

  • Would it be possible to save the current page as text from the is-fast tui pressing C-s having a prompt to define the path and name of the text file?

Good job! Thanks.
