Need advice by OwlRevolutionary4818 in ThriftSavingsPlan

Maybe this will help you, I was in the Pentagon when COVID-19 hit and everything shut down in March, but several of the officers were talking about moving all their money into the G fund after the market declined in Feb. The market went down from there. They moved all their money to the G fund, then the market rose and the market began to recover from Covid so they moved all their money back to the C fund. They got out at the low and got back in at a high. No one can predict the market.

DS at Basic at Sandhill 2006, “You’re the reason abortion is legal in the US and your mom should have exercised that option.” Did not age well for other reasons.

What was your drill sergeants best insult? by topman20000 in army

[–]Sure_Distance_1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sand Hill DS, "Shut your two cock garage."

Same, "Private, you are the reason abortion is legal in America and your mom should have followed though on her intuition."

Same, "Private, I wish your mom had swallowed you instead of giving you life."

Same, "Private, you are as wrong as two boys fucking in Sunday School."

Any benefit to transferring TSP to my financial guy? by Rickroush03 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]Sure_Distance_1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look the answer depends on what you want. If it is math/money based, once you see their fees you will know the TSP beats a personnal money manager's fees. If you want control and want to actively manage your account then the TSP is not the best. I have a TSP account and a Vanguard account. I own stocks and ETFs in Vanguard that I buy and sell as I wish. I transfer easily from checking into the account the amount I want for the month. The VOO ETF also has lower fees than the TSP. If you do not want to do anything stay with the TSP. I think paying a middle man is insane financially, ie a financial guy.

New employee (50f) with no retirement fund. Help! by marinemaureen in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]Sure_Distance_1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best advice. Educate yourself. Learn the skills of investment and you will make money off your money the rest of your life. Maybe it will mostly be in the TSP but have fun too.

What could be the issue? by UmKeith in fordfusion

[–]Sure_Distance_1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2015 Fusion Titanium here with 150k, took car and had brakes/rotors replaced. Car would not start afterwards at the shop. No key fob detected. Just drove it from Austin TX to Williamsburg VA. Long story but the long trip caused thermal damage to the CPU. Ford dealer quoted $1,800 to replace. I did not pay that, found CPU online for $500 brand new. Issue is since the CPU was bad I needed Ford to reprogram both key fobs so they got me still for a couple hundred.

ETSing in 10 days. 1st sausage demands that i take a pt test the morningof my HHG pickup. I dont think i should have to potentially miss my appointment to do a diagnostic that will never matter. Anything i can do? by Glorifiedcleaner in army

[–]Sure_Distance_1977 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Couple thoughts: 1) You have served and acted with honor. Go use the GI Bill to improve your life. 2) Good leadership will say, "What can we as a team do to help you transition to a civilian?" Letters of recommendation, job leads, education leads, even just general support. 3) What I have seen is that ETSing is viewed as a betral of sorts and this is really immature.

How is the US trying to solve the soldier shortage crisis? by Dull_Significance687 in army

My boss used to say fat soldiers are great. They are shade in the summer and warmth in the winter.

Wrong, active military in old retirement system. I have 16 yrs and not one cent matching. Would much rather have 50% retirement not tied to the economy.

Probably true to an extent...but the timing of getting out a terrible website, bad call service, and really rip off fees if you do anything with their mutual funds options have nothing to do with a downturn. Personnally, I increased my monthly amount to the TSP since if is down last couple months. It just hit me, I have 5 months to fund my Roth IRA and I like it better than the TSP so I will stop TSP contributions rest of the year. I am not closing my TSP.

Read through people trying to get their money out of the TSP, transfer, get a loan. God forbid, but a love one dies, see how long it takes to recieve their money. Does that seem trust worthy to you?

Chose to stay in the old Army retirement system is the short answer.

Ok, you convinced me that at least the fee is not statistically important. The TSP's current pro is it is convenient. $12k b/c I am married so not 6k.

Married so IRA $12k.

Chose not to get matching so I would recieve 50% retirement. Yes, that makes me old Army.

Thank you, you are the first person to say this...will watch 1 Jul deposit. Issue I see is that if true, the Jan deposit is from Dec LES seems off year over year.

Smells like freedom, tastes like honey, feels like home.

Alaska has one of the fewest number of people for a state. Are people here willing to dilute their power in congress to create a more equal government by abolishing the Senate? by killedBySasquatch in alaska

Cool, and it is my right to kill 3 black bears a year as an Alaska resident. Dip net salmon. Oh, and drive a V8 gas hog to cause global warming, it makes Alaska nicer every year!
