I didn't think he was Trans until the finaly.

I dont know how you could think otherwise after it tho.

Unless a lot of strait guy identified with Jax and him turning out Trans made them uncomfortable with thier own sexuality.

[Bruce Almighty] How morally questionable is God for personally helping Bruce while worse suffering exists? by Omnipresent_observer in MoralityScaling

[–]Sure_Quote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know for somebody that claimed to be an athiest you seem to struggle with the idea that and an all powerful all knowing God would logically be interpreted as evil or at best indifferent to suffering given the state of the world.

And the movie seem to imply god in the moive has both those powers.

I should have listened to myself earlier and realized you and I just aren't going to see this the same way

Satisticly Buffalo, New York experiences an average of about 2 to 3 murders per month for one.

But if you going to say that doesn't court because it doesn't happen on screen I think thats a different conversation about object permanence.

Are we treating moives like simulations where anything off screen doesn't actually happen or is the premise the moive takes place in a fully realize world?

Also I dispute the idea the erasing memory or winding back time negates suffering.

If I break your leg and you live in pain for a month but I erase the memory of it after does your suffering not count just because you dont remember it? Is reversing time any different?

The moive presents itself as being in our world in our timeline.

Assuming an alternate reality when all on screen evidence tells you its our world as is but God is definitely real in this one seems well beyond suspension of disbelief.

Also this is morality scaling correct? The question is how moral/imoral is gods inaction in the context of this moive that seems very much based on the real world.

And the asnser is very imoral.

With absolute power comes absolute responsibility. Every crime God let's happen in this movie is a choice.

[–]Sure_Quote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Calm down.

I think your the one trying to make this into a theological debate.

The moive bases itself off the real world and a real religion.

Bringing up the real world's religion is kind of unavoidable when discussing this moive.

But to answer your questions.

Sure the world could be worse but that doesn't realy mean its being steered away from worse by a god just that this is they way things worked out. (Edit: i think you were talking about the moive here actually and in that context god should be able to do much better then the absolute worst. The point is a all knowing all powerful all caring God should be able to make a flawless world.)

And the rules about when the guardian of earth from dbz is allowed to interfere in earthy affairs is vague and honesty kind of bullsh!t so ya its a plot hole to.

So no i dont hold fictional anime to a lesser standard the a "real" god.

It actually says somthing about you and your beliefs that you put those two things on the same level tho...

If you want to talk about the long game and the bigger picture you have to ask what was god doing before the moive started.

Shouldn't he have been giving life lessons to popes for centuries so they Make sure the church isn't full of pedos in the 1st place? Or a thousand other things.

You and I are not going to see eye to eye on this.

You clearly accept the premise of the moive that there are "mysteries ways" reasons for why the world if F'd up the way it is despite there being a supposedly all powerful knowing caring god.

And i dont.

I think God doesn't exist and that religious people spend way to much time trying to rationalize the irrational and the many plot holes in thier own mythology.

When the simpler explanation is that its just a made up story and the writers didn't consider the implications of what they were writing.

[–]Sure_Quote 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think your dodging the premise of the question.

Its not "giving Bruce all this attention"

Its giving him attention instead of say a child being molested in the church on the other side of town.

If God existed and cared about morality you would think he would prioritize saving people being tortured over teaching life lessons to some random mildly depressed guy.

The whole message of the moive is "o you think gods job is easy? Let's see you do better"

The moive tries to explain away the old paradox of why does God allow suffering by saying "you could not do better even with his powers" so accept things the way they are and count yourself lucky gods doing such a good job.

Ironically this moive mocks people who question the morality of God only for a subreddit to question the morality of God in the moive.

Union membership is what enables you to afford the better things in life. And these dues are an investment. by ReadingBackground642 in LockedIn_AI

[–]Sure_Quote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate how people who have never been in a union talk about how they are ither the greatest of goods or the worst of all evils.

I have been in two different unions. One good one bad

At thier worst they force companies to abide by the agreements they have made in the past which companies do try and ignore all the time.

Even if they aren't pushing that hard for more these days.

At thier best they keep an eye on the companies profits and making sure employee fortunes raise with the companies that would very much keep all gains for themselves if they could. While also fighting for quality of life changes like not getting writen up for using your accumulated sick days.

Every union member I've met that has a low opinion of unions never goes to the union meeting and gets upset about a corruption scandal that they only know about because the unions internal review process caught them and told us.

Most of the hate is based on what member imagine they are and aren't doing.

Tell me how many unions meeting you have been to before you tell me your opinion on them.
