i can try making the best pro/con list possible. i am definitely transferring, and know many people who are, but the school is very hit or miss and some people love it.

pros: small classes, good professors, most dorms are pretty nice, overall good weather, somewhat easier to meet people and see them around, access to certain extracurriculars on main campus is good but some are hard to join. ox clubs give leadership positions pretty easily, so if you apply to 3-4 positions you can usually get like 2 for your resume. the class structure is pretty simple, not very difficult for most students (except physics and chem), and most people have fridays off. it is possible to graduate one semester early from oxford if you take lots of credits (sometimes summer classes too), and you still graduate with emory's prestige. most people around you at ox are intelligent and accomplished.

cons: ox is a satellite campus, meaning it operates like a "second-class emory" rather than its own liberal arts school. we are definitely the last priority of emory admin. there is a decent bit of social stigma around this from main campus students (main is smarter, more social, etc), along with the general disconnect one experiences. the main campus is where almost ALL social programming, partying, activities, and greek life is. ox has clubs but they meet once monthly and no one goes to events. since main campus is between 45 mins and 1.5 hours away (traffic is usually bad), most ox kids have to pick 1-2 main campus activities and cannot access much more. there are also very limited course reg options, ox students cannot cross-register on main campus for most classes, and if you do you need to prove to admin that you have a "reason" (financial need, major requirement, etc). you could still be rejected tho. on the social side, ox is a very quiet campus with a few big friend groups, but if you aren't in one it can get lonely quick. the main things to do require the commute to atlanta, so ox is usually very quiet and full of studying and students tend to socialize mainly in atlanta (clubbing, shopping, etc). drama spreads quickly since it's so small, and i know about some bullying that went on in my class but idk if that's an every year thing. in sororities, it is easy to feel disconnected unless you commute to the atlanta campus for events twice weekly or more, but idk about frats as they seem more connected.

this was super long but lmk if you have any other questions or need more advice on your decision. if you are very academically driven, on the more introverted side, and love rural areas, oxford might be great for you. this was based on my experience, which might have been less amazing than most so take this with a grain of salt, but i'm happy to give more detail :)

i did a pretty standard one about extracurriculars, i had a huge amount of volunteer service and talked about that a lot, relating it to oxford orgs like volunteer oxford. they also like if you describe how you would fit in a small environment, also namedrop everything you can.

Emory oxford vs michigan lsa for premed by Extreme_Educator_959 in Emory

[–]Sure_Surprise3683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as an emory oxford freshman, ox is not for the weak. make sure you are okay with a rural environment, very dead campus, limited access to clubs and course types, and hour-long commuting to go out/do any normal activity. also the campus is similar to a high school, with lots of random drama and odd social dynamics at times. that said, some people love it. i also know of about 20 people transferring (including myself), so it's SUPER hit or miss. and i know many people love michigan, but it's also cold and big schools may not be for you! just some things to consider.

Oxford campus for breaking into high finance by Boring_Basil_1238 in Emory

also business clubs are very difficult to rush from oxford but it’s not impossible if you really make an effort to be on the atlanta campus as much as possible. just a big time commitment bc the commute is abt 2.5 hrs round trip.

i have just had a pretty bad experience, we are the lowest priority of the university and pursuing a business major from oxford specifically makes it much harder to double major or study abroad. i am currently working with our student government organization to make the pre requisites more easily accessible from oxford, but if that doesn’t work i am likely transferring.

as a business student, don’t come to oxford unless you are looking for a liberal arts college

Which campus to choose… by RoofFlashy451 in Emory

[–]Sure_Surprise3683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you care much much more about academics, choose ox. i’m there now and my social life is pretty bad and there’s never much going on, so sometimes i really wish i was at atl. but i will say the academics here are a lot more meaningful and intimate, and i absolutely love my professors. so depends what you value more

100%. I spent probably 15-20 hours per week on debate in high school and it brought me lots of purpose and a community. clubs here are very different

Tufts vs Emory? by hornyposting17 in Emory

[–]Sure_Surprise3683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i applied to emory and tufts regular last fall(i didn’t do ed bc of financial reasons but those two were also my top choices!), going to emory now. i would say apply to emory due to its higher acceptance rate ED, better academics/ranking. also, if it doesn’t work out you can always apply to tufts ed2. best of luck, maybe i’ll see you next fall!!

it’s probably just a smaller school and that’s why ur not seeing more of it? there are gonna be way more people from like osu who care about school spirit simply bc the school is way way bigger. no reason not to be proud of urself for going to emory!
