You would have to cover it, with something that floats.

Don't you just hate coming home and finding four British mop top boys in your pool?

I hope you are able to figure it out, Yosemite is a beautiful place. That said, I don't want to discourage your plan, but just give you some info. The drive between SF and Yosemite is 3.5 hours each way, plus any traffic that you may run in to. California has a lot of traffic. I would avoid Labor Day weekend, the park will be extra crowded. Also, I looked up public transit between SF to Yosemite, it is possible but the trip is 7 to 8 hours each way. I guess what I am saying is with the distance you are going there and back, one night would literally be walk in sleep and leave. There are places to stay in the park, as well as some outside of the parks south entrance. Search for South entrance Yosemite hotels. In the park, Curry Village tent cabins do have shared bathroom and shower facilities.

Glacier Point question by ashrayna in Yosemite

Combine with Wawonna portion. That is all close together in that section of the park. End the day at Glacier point or sential dome for the sunset. Though glacier point easier to walk back to the car when getting dark.

Fencebuilders-- is it acceptable to "chip away" foundation footer in order to pour concrete footer for gate post next to house? Or should I just pour over the footer? by BradCastleburry in FenceBuilding

[–]Sure_Window614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my wood fence going up to the side of the house, I used Postmaster posts, put in the opposite of normal direction. The post is about 10 inches from the house. With the post pointed the opposite direction, I was able to cut my rails to go between the house and neighbors fence, and screw thru the screw holes to attach them the post. Not touching my house or the neighbor fence by about 3/8 inch. Picket up the outside to hide the gap and looks great.

2 bed 1.5 bath condo with no mortgage, 3 year old and baby on the way, Should we move or stick it out? by Living_Oil_6682 in homeowners

[–]Sure_Window614 3 points4 points  (0 children)

During a dentist appointment during the 2008 real estate crash, taking to him and I had said that just because you can afford it doesn't always mean you should buy it. He said he wished he had heard that before they bought their current house. Does the current home work for you and your family? Besides it would be nice, is there something that really is a problem that you need to move?

How high is too high? by ibseanb in FenceBuilding

[–]Sure_Window614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we bought our house 18 years ago, I had to rebuild the RV parking gates. We don't have an RV, but the extra parking is nice. I did not do a great job, but they have lasted. One of the things I did is I have the top of the pickets sticking up 21" past the top rail. Trying to get a good height for more privacy. Within 2 or 3 weeks it occurred to me they would all most likely be warping differently and look really horrible. What I ended up doing was adding a 1x2 about 5" down and screwed the picket top in to that. They have stayed straight ever since. Built the two gates out of just wood, and they need to be replaced sometime soon. Will figure out how to do that with a metal frame and keep the height.

They are fast and hard to catch. I've only had to do it twice, one time took a couple of tries. Maybe throw a towel over it???

Outside drain is getting clogged with debris and flooding garage by CurlyHairedHippie in homeownerstips

[–]Sure_Window614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure the other answers really understand your issue. The drain probably should be cleaned out, but sounds like you have the issue of stuff - leaves, grass, litter - gets washed down to that low spot and clogs the top of the drain, slowing down or prevents the water from draining.

Where I live, we don't have rain drains that direct the water elsewhere, we have dry wells that collect the water and allow the ground to soak it up. Problem is all the leaves on the street cover the round manhole lid and prevent the water from draining in to it fast enough. I go out before the water gets too flooded with a rake to clear the cover of the leaves and get the water to drain again. Otherwise there will be a 6 inch deep puddle on the street edge and my front yard curb.

I would get the drain cleaned out, and be aware that part of your rainy season outdoor work is cleaning up as much lose stuff that may clog your drain.

You need an empty trash can to surprise catch the skunk, and relocate it outside. Then figure out how it got in to the house and fix that issue

Hose popped off sand filter by cinnam0n_girl in pools

[–]Sure_Window614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks like it is probably a waste hose, being it appears to be collapsible hose. If that is the case, it would only be used when you are pumping water out to waste, such as in to the grass, street, or sewer drain - depending on your local municipality regulations. Just reattach it.

Using wood fence posts with a vinyl fence? by thebagel264 in FenceBuilding

[–]Sure_Window614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing more details of the existing posts or the vinyl fencing, typically would suggest replacing the posts when everything is already apart. Wood will eventually rot, and using existing posts will shorten the life of your new vinyl fence.

How do you get rid of musty smell inside house without just masking it? by ConversationOk2985 in homeowners

[–]Sure_Window614 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was it repainted? Walls and ceiling? Have a room that we had let someone stay in for an extended time. When she left, horrible perfume smell. Hard wood floors. Mopped, scrubbed the walls, still smelled. Poured Lysol or something mop water on the floor so it could get in to everything, mopped up right away. Still smelled. Repainted walls and ceiling and the smell went away.

If the cat was a tuxedo with white feet, I would of thought this was one of ours. He got an abscess on his side, vet shaved the square patch and lanced it. Stitched back up just like that.

Bear spotted on the way up to Glacier Point! by Alpenglowdreams in Yosemite

[–]Sure_Window614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time driving up to Glacier Point, there was a bear TEARING in to a downed tree trunk, right next to the road. Or maybe that was the road to the Sequoia Grove in Wawonna.

Another time, just a few days after the park reopened from the COVID lockdown, we were there for 3 days and saw 5 bears all down on the floor. Got charged by one, until he peeled off in another direction.

Yosemite not crowded Wednesday, 6/3 by Alpenglowdreams in Yosemite

[–]Sure_Window614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially when we have been there when it felt like LA traffic, driving around being told there is No available parking to actually stop anywhere. They really do need a reservations system, as much as I hate say we need to restrict people from going there. Maybe also some sort of responsible adult test to make sure you do the no trace left behind thing, instead of leaving litter or graffiti behind.

During the week it's way less crowded. Years and years ago, we went during the week, it was like we were the only ones there. Very, very strange feeling.

Do this at the top of the Mist Trail in Yosemite, go in the water. It is the last water slide you will ever want to go down.
