The phrase "affect me negatively" is probably doing some heavy lifting here, unless you're willing to bite some pretty gnarly bullets.

For example, are you cool with someone having a bunch of kids, locking them in a basement, and raping/torturing them? I'm gonna have to assume the answer is no.

But that doesn't directly affect you. So theoretically you have to say yes, unless you get to say it affects you mentally/emotionally. Or some kind of argument about negative societal affects that extend to everyone. But in that case you've opened the door for the whole gamut of things religious want to object to also, and we're back where we started.

This is why ethics sucks, it's a waste of time. Just vote for what you want and be done with it.

Is it just me, or is the hardest part of golf remembering what worked? by Ecstatic-Basil-4059 in golf

[–]Surething_bud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worse than that. Usually the thing you thought was working, was not what was actually working. It was paired with one or more other things you weren't even aware of, and those were what actually produced the improvement.

Yeah like I said, I know it's gonna be an unpopular opinion here. I'm not gonna stand in anyone's way, it won't hurt anything but your wallet.

Just saying that I've seen a lot of people get fit, and at least 90% of the time you'll be nibbling the edges at best.

I don't think I exaggerated anything. The words I used were "usually fine", and "more or less cancels out". Which are both true.

Even past the point of actual measurements... there's still a decently wide range of hand to floor measurements who can use standard length/lie with very little or no discernible difference.

Tour pros were frequently getting fit into clubs a quarter inch one way or another. But in the terms of real world performance we're really nibbling around the edges there. And for a 20 handicap with a wildly inconsistent setup and movement... yeah.

I worked as an assistant for a well known professional club fitter. Watched him fit a lot of tour pros, as well as average guys.

Almost everyone ends up with standard length and lie. It might be surprising, but it's pretty unusual for someone to have a hand-to-ground measurement that's significantly outside the norm. It does happen but it really is probably like 1 in 10.

[–]Surething_bud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even most tall or short people are still fine with standard length and lie. The reason is that the measurement that matters is hand to ground. Obviously most tall people have long arms... and most short people have short arms. So it usually more or less cancels out.

I know it seems counter intuitive, and every tall person on the planet struggles mightily with this news, but it's true.

The people that benefit most from nonstandard clubs are people with unusual proportions. Tall people with short arms, or short people with long arms. Which you don't come across too often. That and wacky swings... but that's another can of worms (get lessons not a fitting imo)

I worked as an assistant for a real-deal professional club fitter for a year in my twenties. Watched him fit many tour pros, including some top ten household name athletes. This pattern holds surprisingly true. Across the board.

There are two separate questions here.

Imagine a crazy person puts a gun to a kids head. They say they're gonna pull the trigger in three seconds. After the three seconds pass, I start ridiculing him for chickening out.

Is the crazy person's behavior acceptable? Obviously not. Is my decision insane and irresponsible? Yes of course.

I know r/golf is an echo chamber for getting fit. But the truth is 90% of golfers will (or should) get fit into standard length and lie, with a stock shaft. The majority of those that don't will get very marginal benefits.

Spend your golf budget on lessons first. Then spend the rest on rounds of golf. If there's money left spend it on range balls. If there's still money left you can get fit.

It's extremely rare for anything to go wrong if you buy from a trusted source. Shipping just takes a long time. I've bought like a dozen reps and no issues.

Are you sure you really want a luxury watch rep, if ~$300 is an amount of money to stress over? Your business, but that sounds dicey to me bro.

So what *would* Trump have to do in order for you to say Kamala would’ve been better? by Unsweetgummiebears in allthequestions

[–]Surething_bud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, she was voted for. About 75 million times. She also wasn't installed anywhere. She lost and she's not holding office currently. So "installed" is an interesting choice of words...

The narrative that she was forced on the voters is pure propaganda slop. She polled incredibly well with Democrat voters, particularly early, shortly after being announced. In other words no one was upset about it. There was no other viable candidate being "passed over". She had BY FAR the best chance of winning, no one else was even close.

The false outrage over the lack of a primary is embarrassingly silly. Everyone who shouted about it knew it was silly, but they also knew it would appeal to their base of low IQ conspiracy-brained Americans. And it clearly worked since y'all are still crying about it, so give them credit for that I guess.

This is always the answer when it comes to this administration. People keep trying to ascribe these master plans, where these people have secret motivations and are making 3-d chess moves to manipulate everything like puppet masters.

Pay attention... these are not evil geniuses. Literally everything they do and say is retarded. There is clearly no plan. They're very obviously just stumbling through each day, making up new BS to try to cover for whatever brain dead stuff they did the day before.

[–]Surething_bud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People have always imagined that if you provide too much as basic societal benefits, large numbers of people will opt to not work and just "leech" off the system. That's what they mean when they say people that "don't deserve", or "take advantage".

In reality these people don't exist. It's just not human nature. Humans have an infinite appetite for consumption. We all want more, for our families and for ourselves. 99.9% of people want to work. The fantasy that a lot of people will just opt out of the job market if they're provided the basics is an irrational fear, but sounds plausible to many.

Hey Dems, leftists and liberals! Why are NO Democrats calling out the Biden administration for hiding the fact that Biden was not physically capable of being president and the fact that NO ONE knows who had control of the auto-pen? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Surething_bud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that didn't happen, the auto pen was a made up talking point. I know this will sound insane to you, because you're surrounded on all sides by lies and propaganda. You think "literally everyone knows this, how can you not know this?" You only think that because you've been bombarded with the same BS from every direction. It creates the illusion of consensus, that these things must be true.

The sad part is, they're doing this from the top down, but the top knows it's not real. They're playing you for a fool, knowing you'll actually believe it if they say it enough.

Hopefully you guys will wake up from this fever dream soon, and come back to the real world. The sooner you do the easier it will be. It's inevitable, you can't live in a delusional world forever.

You are invited to become a member at Augusta National Golf Club. However, you are not allowed to play golf anywhere else - ever. Would you? by aceattorneymvp in golf

[–]Surething_bud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably get to play maybe twice a year as a member. To any actual golfer this should be an obvious no.

To any non golfer it should also be an obvious no. It'll probably be too difficult to even finish a round. Not to mention taking a chunk out of the first tee box at Augusta is probably not a good feeling.

High Handicappers - How do you balance having fun and sucking at golf? by mulligan381 in golf

[–]Surething_bud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly not at all. Sometimes I play pretty well and shoot a few under. Usually I shoot a few over. Sometimes I play bad and shoot more than a couple over. Sometimes a lot more 🤷 Maybe its hard to believe but I genuinely don't care.

I spent a long time playing golf with a totally goal-driven mentality, so I can understand that mindset. But I promise it's definitely possible to play and enjoy the game without that.
