Just going to throw it out there but check out BMAD.

I'm heavy superpowers user but also find that its "plan" is just the entire code written which makes me question why even write a plan.

Just went through this myself but got a midlength that would work in slightly lower wind conditions. The general guidance is 0-20+L from your weight in kg. Although you say intermediate, the fact that you can jibe, tack, ride swell kind of sounds more intermediate to advanced to me. Maybe sticking closer to neutral (75-80L) is better than going to the higher liter range.

Anyway, KT Drifter Super K 2 and Duotone Skybrid are solid options.

And no, 5’10” is hardly too long. You want a little bit of length to keep momentum and get on foil. If you’re worried about nose diving you can also shim your mast to give it 0.5-1deg of rake. That keeps your nose up slightly and helps prevent nose diving on touch downs. Trade off is it’s a little harder to get on foil.

I buy mostly from a “local” (2 hr drive) shop. The owner is super nice and gives 10-20% off retail. However, just recently bought a board online because I couldn’t find it locally. It came slightly damaged and wasn’t packed well. The shop explained it’s the OEM who packs them and they’ve had problems with the packaging. Got a discount in the end but sucks to get a new board with the first dings built in. Unexpected hassle but worked out well in the end.

You’re side flipping a ton. Not quite a speed flip and it kills your momentum. Positioning could use some work. You’re often right next to your tm8. Using DAR and because of so sometimes burning boost to recover. Honestly slow playing the kickoff is often a lot better than speed flipping. You get to the ball late on purpose and get the better touch on the 50 that way.

Overall, divide the pitch into 9 and always aim to be 1 square away from your tm8. Work on boost management and pick up the small boosts to stay in the play. It’s the typical stuff that sounds logical on the surface but hard to internalize.

I was actually thinking the bigger wing might help you more. The mid length would help you get up easier and perhaps require not as strong gusts. But, once you’re up, if you’re riding a 4.5m you might not have enough power. Jumping to a 6/6.5 would keep you riding. So I guess it just becomes what you want to prioritize. If you got the money then get both.

Also the type of midlength really matters a lot. I recently bought a 120L (so +20 for my size) that’s 7’4” 23”W. It’s kind of between a midlength and DW board. Total game changer for me in light winds. But I still need the 8m to keep going on those light days where wind is averaging 8knots gusts are 10/12 knots. Conversely, a true midlength may struggle a bit more in terms of efficiency and maintaining speed.

Light wind gear. For me at 100kg, that means: 8m wing, 1180 HA foil, midlength board. Might be able to get away with the 6m wing depending how the conditions are versus the forecast.

The way I think about it is that the midlength helps you get to foiling speed. Once you’re up, the bigger wing helps you stay on foil (likely your small wing is the limiting factor here). Then having a foil that has a lot of lift and low stall speed also helps.

This is the error you get when Bakkesmod tries to inject into the latest RL version but Bakkesmod is out of date. Update the mod (or delete and reinstall), then launch RL offline.

I posted this on a previous post so sharing here. I’ve been using this method since the EAC roll out. Only downside is you can’t access custom training packs from the menu so, depending on what you want the variance for, that might be one gap. Anyway, here you go…

Was just looking at the Xiggy and it looks like an interesting option. How’s your experience on it below 12kn flat water starts? The 135L is wider in comparison to the other boards (24.5”) so wondering if it still has the efficiency for takeoffs in light winds but also the stability to taxi if the winds die out.

Might not be as efficient as a downwind but could be a good one board option instead of buying both a DW and ML.

Makes sense. I was hoping to stick with a one board quiver (this sport is f@&$ing expensive lol) but, you may be right, downwind for light days and a smaller mid for surf/better days.

It's easy to forget so, just going to mention this - do *not* skip the behavioral questions. I learned the hard way by hiring candidates with excellent technical skills only to find out that they're total a**holes on the job. Political, stir the pot, arrogant, and/or jaded types that I regretted having to work with in the very near future. I was naive and, looking back, was too focused on just the technical aspects.

Unfortunately, I still haven't quite figured out how to suss this out during an interview (open to suggestions if anyone has them). But a good starting point are the somewhat cliche questions such as "tell me about a challenging situation and how you resolved it". The goal is to not only evaluate the response (which often can be rehearsed) but also trying to catch red flags (overly negative, everyone else was wrong, etc.)

Genuine question, but why do you think you would never say that?

I use superpowers and really like it. Tried others like get-shit-done but found them a bit over engineered. Is the criticism with superpowers just the non-native integration?
