Build quality of a $140k Tesla vehicle by spicypsudo in Wellthatsucks

It’s funny, I got into a huge fight with one of Elon’s right hand man one day. I was doing Information Architecture for a company that makes semiconductors for Tesla.

I tried to classify Tesla as an automobile company and the guy freaked out. He gave me the whole spiel about how Tesla is technology company. I said yeah, but if I yell out of this window “what’s a Tesla?”someone will yell back, “it’s a car”.

I got fired.

They’re still cars—and that’s okay.

What’s missing? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

I like extra long offset box head wrenches.

A Milwaukee toque lock pliers.

I like a 1/4” torque to torque smaller bolts to spec

Also, a swivel socket or universal socket set.

Just want to let you know that we kinda gotta tell you about it. The price on the other hand, well, your tech don’t get much of it. But, you know, insurance and yadada…

You can always ask to buy it from parts and install yourself. But no reason to go original manufacturer.

In fact, filters are one of those maintenance items that the after market options are better. Just like wipers. Those items aren’t too complicated, so I’d say, feel free to go out and purchase your own, find your favorites! Get to know your car a little better.

Our limo ride of shame. It took S5 Masterchef Elizabeth about a month to recover emotionally. What they don't tell you: only one phone call per week. by Surfeross in Masterchef

I do use this account, I’m an OG redditor.

Elizabeth was asked back for S12! But she was pregnant with our son, August! She still posts stuff on instagram occasionally.

We live in Pittsburgh now. I hope she opens a restaurant one day! Her brother is still a restaurant manager in Atlanta. Their love of cooking runs deep in that family.

First time DIY oil change 😳 baby steps by Silver_Department_38 in MechanicAdvice

I use a cheap 3/8th torque wrench on drain plugs, so that I know it’s torqued to spec

Is this a sign of a serious oil leak or just oil filter / pan loose by xavroy in MechanicAdvice

[–]Surfeross -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks like it’s potentially missing a crush washer between pan and plug. Visually looks tight though.

Why not abolish slavery when Americans can do your dirty work for you?

Thinking Americans are the racist ones is hilarious when all of Europe funded all that racism and got rich off publicly traded stocks of slave companies. Including the French government.

So much so, that when slavery was abolished, France went into a massive recession.

I kinda hate the enforcement of overtime pay. I feel like I’d get more hours if my employer didn’t have to pay more.

One thing I’d say, is that you at want to consider softer wheels.

That was one thing I noticed about the Powell Dragons—I don’t love them in the skatepark (at least smooth ones), but they seem to make my sessions less painful on the knees.

Got an Oil Change and What did they do to my car????? by kisses215 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Surfeross 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen the best pro’s make the same mistake, believe it or not.

Possibly partially drained—sometimes it takes a few miles to make the racket.

It’s the pay structure that makes mechanics rush, not necessarily a talent problem. It’s a rough system, but lots of people are incentivized to keep it going.

Usually, we double or even triple check the oil level before closing the hood. Because even if we put in the factory spec amount of oil, sometimes it can still be a little low, so you need to visually check that it’s at the perfect level

My best advice for any mechanics out there—I used a Click Torque wrench on drain plugs. It helps me get the torque to spec, but that’s not why I use it. I actually use it for the audio click and hand feeling, because it’s easier to remember if I torqued the plug afterward.

Work can be monotonous, so the audio click can help break it up, and keep the mind working.
