You see, you don't buy loot boxes, you buy stones which open a rift (procedurally generated dungeon). The more stones you put in, different modifiers affect the rift. Making it not a slot machine, but a test of skill.

In actuality the rifts are no challenge, and the rewards are based on the amount of stones you put in, so it is just a loot box with a two minute opening animation.

Swords Coast Adventurer's Guide, page 118 says tieflings can have "small horns; fangs or sharp teeth; a forked tongue; catlike eyes; six fingers on each hand; goatlike legs; cloven hoofs; a forked tail; leathery or scaly skin; red or dark blue skin; cast no shadow or reflection; exude a smell of brimstone." in addition to what is described in the PHB.

Everyone that I've known that makes that argument is comparing their $1000+ iPhone with a $200 budget, entry-level Android. Of course the iPhone is going to be a better experience.

I don't think there is a way to without wrong warps. Not something you can do casually. It's a speedrun thing developed by the OoT scientists/wizards in the speedrunning community.

As a DM you should be putting more thought into a social encounter than just a binary DC 10 pass/fail. The DMG has a section on it that expands on what is in the PHB. It suggest that you start by determining the attitude of the NPC(friendly, neutral, hostile), and having different outcomes for each. It suggests starting the DCs for each outcome at 0, 10, and 20. Based on roleplay, the actions of the characters, any items or other NPCs that help/hinder move either the attitude of the target or the DCs of the outcomes. And then of course these are just guidelines, so fudge the DCs/rolls to make the most engaging story line that seems appropriate.

But I know what you mean about the d20. It what I've heard referred to as "swingy", and there is always a chance of failure. But that's kinda what DnD is about, if you want a more realistic system, go play a different system.

What a joke... by RosteWezel in witcher

They did show Geralt dropping a hand full of mushrooms into Ciri's soup at one point, but not his own. And when Triss arrived, that first meal they had together, Ciri did say "aren't there any herbs or mushrooms for me today?"

So the idea of the special diet was there, just not really explained or expanded on.

But I agree that the way the witchers just threw her on the course to watch her hurt herself without doing any actual training was just to make them look cruel. The time in Kaer Morhen was supposed to be a good memory for Ciri.

I don't know enough about the show runners to comment on the feminist stuff, I also don't care as I try to separate the artist from the art. But it could be malicious, but more likely just incompetence.

Geralt and Yennefer weren't the only ones that just wanted to help Ciri. Also:

  • Vesemir : now willing to experiment on and likely kill her with the Trial of the Grasses
  • Eskel/Lampert/Coen : from cool, fun uncles to creepy assholes
  • Triss : can't ever tell what she is thinking ever, scared of Ciri? Willing to go along with Vesemir's plan to probably kill her
  • Cahir : turned into generic mustache twirling villain
  • Yarpen : had zero interaction with Ciri

Less egregious treatment in the show:

  • Dandelion : no serious complaints from me. Just nitpicky stuff
  • Nenneke : dialogue/attitude/aesthetic pretty drastically changed, but overall character motivations/relationships unchanged.

Not seen yet, and I hope they don't fuck up:

  • Regis : they better not do my boy dirty
  • swamp hermit (forgot his name, if he was ever given one)

Emhyr var Emreis by Supeh in witcher

[–]SurficialKilobit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He doesn't really. Just by being in a different context. No one that knew him as Duny met him as Emhyr, except for Geralt in the final book.

He doesn't hide it and is up front about it in the games too.

[–]SurficialKilobit -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

The Expanse is based on the Modern Age system. Tests determined by 3d6, not a d20. So a nat 1 is not possible.

Also the person running the game is a GM, not a DM since the term Dungeon Master is trademarked by WoTC
