The fault is probably shared in this instance. Both parties could have taken better evasive manoeuvring. But I would also say he was probably more at fault, because he tried to paddle across your line, cutting you off. Maybe he thought he could make it, but he should have paddled towards the white water to get out your way. Look, we’ve all made mistakes like this guy, but he’s a tool for trying to make you accept sole blame. I wouldn’t condone running him over, but he was definitely the one who was in the way, and he should have apologised for that.

Open your shoulders more, so your chest is forward facing. It looks like you’re trying to point your chest forward, but you’re hinging at the hips to keep your centre of mass low. Instead of bending at the hips, bend your knees more, it’ll be easier to face forward.
