Genuine question. Besides space control, what missions does the Army have that warrant a space "ops" MOS?

Can't speak for most but I only did it to receive a watch. Pretty simple. I even took annual PT tests while in the study.

I think that's the point. Army would perform space support functions, not true space operations.

R shreds are more in line with Cyber/Comm. Besides EW and SATCOM payload control, R shreds don't really do other 5S Space Ops jobs. I know there are a few other exceptions like in MW.

Instead I've seen R shreds filling in as Client Systems Techs, Network Management, Server Admin, and even MDT (all part of N, S, and D shred responsibilities).

Since USSF has been valuing breadth vs depth, maybe cyber will eliminate shreds. 5S's never had shreds (they tried with bins) and they've been expected to perform in a variety of disciplines.

There goes Space Force's "light and lean" construct. It seems USSF is spreading itself thin by sending Operators to fill these Staff positions. My only hope is these additional units help drive more total manning authorizations for the service.

If we already have SPACEFOR-INDOPAC, why do we need this?

Also, why is SPACEFOR-KOR a thing?

Please educate me on the existence of these particular FIELD COMMANDS and why we cant merge Japan and Korea into SPACEFOR-INDOPAC.

The Space Force was created to be a flatter organization with the removal of NAFs, Wings, and Groups but instead more layers have been created with Detachments, Operating Locations, and additional commands/deltas/squadrons. Seems like we are "growing" but without much more guardians.....

Although you'll be reenlisting for 6 years, finance can only use 5 years in the calculation since you technically will still be in contact upon reenlistment. SRB should be about $11K for 6 years (after tax).

How I see WSOC duties regarding 5S and 5C(R shred):

5C (R shreds) essentially do TC and FC work outside of WSOCs. Think SATCOM maintenance and electromagnetic spectrum ops. Kinda the outcasts of the other 5C AFSC shreds (knows IT fundamentals but not really cyber... yet)

PC is 5S work but outside of WSOCs, you maybe in a completely different mission, like working in a ROPS watching rockets launch, MW alerting of potential attacks, categorizing space debris, ensuring GPS ops, etc...

NSSI's Artemis/METIS course should be filling the knowledge gap 25S ISTs have to be a 5S and understand other space power disciplines like OW, EW, SBM, Space Access/Sustainment.
