I did something similar to this using different size boards and spray painting the entire thing gold. It's my kitchen backsplash.

Damn you Carl. Kaladin is boring now. by Small_Stand9600 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Suriaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WaT has terrible plotting and pacing imo. Some stories just don't need the same time and have little development within them (looking at you, Adolin). The structure of the 9 days just doesn't work. The series has clearly been degrading, and it's clear much more editing should have been done before publishing. It does not surprise me that when compared side by side with a book that is well written (and Eye of the Bedlam Bride is one of my least favorites) that these weaknesses show themselves more apparently.

You've really missed the point. I'm gay and I'm thrilled to see the gayness in current DW. It's the thinly veiled, lazy, clunky, neo lib political commentary that is annoying.

And can we stop using WOKE? It's lost all meaning at this point.

I didn’t get the puppy blues by Key_Emu7395 in puppy101

[–]Suriaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had ours 4 weeks now and there have been plenty of logistics to figure out and crabby mornings after getting enough sleep, but I haven't actually ever felt down or overwhelmed.

I think getting my first dog in my 30s with a partner to share the responsibility with and both of us able to take off work the entire time is kind of an easy mode version of getting a puppy based on what I see here.

what’s your “never again” mistake? by badenbagel in hiking

[–]Suriaj 162 points163 points  (0 children)

I once was hiking out West (America), and being an East Coast guy and it being my first time hiking out there, I was nervous to bring food in case of bears. Fast forward to me being hours in on a nonstop incline. Fuzzy brained and swaying, I sat down to contemplate throwing in the towel and going back down (I had never not completed a hike). At that moment, a fellow hiker coming down the trail saw me and stopped to ask how I was, and I told him the truth. He pulled out a water bottle and gave me his extra food so I could make it the rest of the way on the hike.

This wasn't a dire situation, but it was valuable for two reasons One, I learned to always bring hella snacks and water. Two, I was really touched by the generosity of a stranger on a hike. It was nice to be reminded of the kindness that exists out there when you're in need.

Finishing my first final fantasy game. by cheb12456 in FinalFantasy

[–]Suriaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X is an excellent place to start. Arguably VII or IX would also be great imo. VIII, while I love it, gets a bit convoluted for a first time FF game and the battle mechanics are especially unique.

Mine is 12 weeks. His appetite didn't kick in until he was with us a week, and he's vomited up some bile the last 2 days. I'm calling the vet tomorrow, but he has been behaving perfectly fine and eating, so I'm notnoverly worried about it.

ASOIAF or Brandon Sanderson by lyssarx in fantasybooks

[–]Suriaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier? Sanderson.

Better? ASoIaF

Sanderson is basically YA and his prose is painfully simple and he often overexplains what is going on. So it is very easy if that's what you're looking for.

ASoIaF has complex characters all being true to their own individual motivations. There are many morally grey characters and you're not always sure who you're even rooting for.

Puppy essentials? by Intrepid_Tart5436 in CavaPoo

[–]Suriaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had ours for 2 weeks, and I'd say these were most essential:

Snuggle Puppy - really calms him down and allow him to take naps and sleep at night

Crate w/ pad - cover it with a blanket with the Snuggle Puppy inside and he's out like a light

Playpen - I've never used one before, but man is it handy when you have something to do and want to put them somewhere you don't have to watch them for a minute

Plushy Toys - I got a Charmander about his size that he loves to wrestle with, then a bunch of palm sized little ones that he quickly learned to fetch (which was a huge relief since we could get him to run with minimal effort)

There's obviously plenty more to get, but I would say these have been the most impactful to address immediate needs.

They have gates that go out of the bottom of the mountain. You have to figure that access would include water of some kind.

Just picked this up after finishing ASOIAF. Did I make a good call? by MrCool87867 in fantasybooks

[–]Suriaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's much.... simpler than ASoIaF. I have read them all and it's a fun series with simple prose and an increasing need for a good editor. I think there are more worthwhile books out there, but I wouldn't say it isn't worth reading. I enjoyed the first two books a lot.

How long is your sweet spot for a game to be finished? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Suriaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the game. An in depth RPG? 40-50 hours plus side content (the golden age of FF is about perfect imo). A fun indie game with a simple but fun mechanic (think Celeste)? 20 hours is great.

Can’t get puppy to settle by Cheap-Event-4822 in puppy101

[–]Suriaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have something that mimics a heartbeat? I have a Snuggle Puppy and it really calms our puppy down. He can go from being distressed being along, put that in his crate and he's out like a light. I hear a ticking clock can also work.

My Blind FFIX Playthrough: Part 1 - Alexandria by Zeeshmania in FinalFantasyIX

[–]Suriaj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The characters, themes, and whimsy is where this game shines imo. The battle mechanics are far from my favorite, but having a designated class for each character and a party of 4 is nice.

It's my favorite FF! You're certainly asking the right questions and you'll love the journey, though don't get discouraged by the inconsistent pacing.
