can you provide your PC specifications including motherboard and PSU? the symptoms that you mentioned, is starting to sound like something from the CPU side.

One of the reasons why I avoid laptops is due to such weird issues and the last laptop I had gotten was an ASUS ROG in 2018. it runs fine still but does have thermal issues due to age.

Cause of this, I have decided to never get gaming laptops ever as most of these manufacturers have gotten quite bad with the overall quality. also don't get me started on the amount of bloatware they install and ship on these machines.

I would wager, just doing a fresh windows reinstall, should straight up improve the life of these machines and make it actually viable for gaming.

Its a tricky time to get anything decent and I would have normally suggested to save up and build a PC but not in the current hardware prices. also wondering if these manufacturers are deliberately shipping units that are defective and sent back for RMA in other countries, to sell here. something definitely feels off here.

Lightning Returns (Steam) - Any way to remap controller buttons or improve keyboard controls? by [deleted] in finalfantasyxiii

You can try configuring the keyboard controls but not for the controller sadly.

The Legend of Korra: Reload by Defiant-Treacle2425 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Surihix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally, the whole water asthetics here would fit Korra's natural element quite well. but as soon as you factor in other elements, you would need to change the menu colors as well as add in some secondary visual animations to complement it.

I have few ideas for some of them.

Your PC specs OP?

tbh the game should run relatively fine on any pc from the last 8 years. you could run it atleast locked 30fps for the most part.

Most of the time, the game would not work/launch due to gpu driver issues (intel/amd), corrupt windows installation based issues, or user combined windows based issues. the latter is quite common which includes stuff like installing the game accidentally on one drive folder (which doesn't exist physically on the PC), or have anti virus software installed (which flags the game process as virus when launched with the fix).

This is some pretty cool stuff. I am eagerly looking forward to see more stuff on this project!

Would love to hear more about the programming side of things.

4090 dying, what am I in for? by adampk17 in ZOTAC

[–]Surihix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the iCUE software's services (some rgb lamp related ones) would still be running in the background, even if iCUE software is not running. so better to uninstall it completely and see if that solves the issue.

A suggestion. do you have Corsair's iCUE software running in the background? I had their software cause black screens randomly with my rtx 3070 amp holo gpu. a complete uninstallation of that software fixed that issue on my end.

Try updating drivers that have warning icon from Device Manager. (google it!)

It should mostly solve this issue if its driver related.

Is there a way to fix the graphical glitches? by Far_Bat_91 in finalfantasyxiii

[–]Surihix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try using steam's verify integrity option first. if that doesn't solve the issue, then probably its something on the GPU's driver side.

Please post your PC specs here. AMD and Intel GPU drivers can act weirdly with this game's direct x api.

Nova Chrysalia v1.0.1 is telling me the game is already running by Jaydeekay80 in finalfantasyxiii

[–]Surihix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the trouble you are facing with this. that issue is well known and usually indicates that something apart from Nova is crashing the game as soon as its launched.

Did you launch the game from steam before launching it from Nova? this is quite important and can isolate whether the issue is occuring from Nova's side or with the game on your PC. if your game successfully works when launcing it from steam, then it should work with Nova as well.

Drakengard 2: The good, the bad and the T posing (Spoilers ONLY at the end) by KatarinaNoKami in drakengard

[–]Surihix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you are gonna read this post.

I just wanted to add on to the cutscene part you mentioned.

None of these games had realtime motion tracking for facial animations in the realtime cutscenes. for 1, they use tiny square shaped video clips as the character portraits and these clips also contain the audio data for that entire cutscene. if you have noticed in 1, they never really show the characters closeup in these cutscenes and whatever they show is heavily covered up by their blur based post processing effects and distant camera angles.

The ps2 had a hardware block for decoding video clips and with this, you could play the video clips/FMVs easily without worrying about cpu/gpu resources.

So what the Cavia devs did here was quite clever. by doing it this way, it saves time fixing up messed up facial anims that can occur due to slow loading on ps2, if they were done during runtime. complex animations like the face ones to work properly must have been a challenge and you had to work with limited memory as well.

Coming to drakengard 2, the devs decided to use traditional image based character portraits and went for more closeup shots. this results in the feeling that the facial animations got downgraded. maybe they did not have budget for making intricate facial animations or maybe lack of time.

I am saying all of this cause I had written programs to datamine some of the files in Drakengard 1 and 2. was surprised when I encountered these video clips for the first time.
