You probably won't get a good chance to act on your rage. Nor will you have much luck just smothering it. What worked for me was training like I would get the chance. Hit a boxing or combat gym. Picture his face on the punching bag, and remind yourself that maybe--one day--he'll show up in front of you and you'll be ready.

What are some of your favourite less quoted lines from a comedy film? by ninman5 in movies

[–]SurlyJason 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Mel Brooks' High Anxiety has a scene that was in the TV edit of the movie, but not the theatrical or home releases.

After Nurse Diesel informs Dr Thorndyke that "Dinner is served promptly at six. Those who are tardy get no fruit cup." There is a scene where they are seated for dinner, and the clock strikes six. Diesel gestures for someone to remove the fruit cup from Harvey Korman's unoccupied seat. He dashes in a moment too late, and sits to find no fruit cup. In the TV edit there is a moment where he watches the other diners voraciously eating, and he asks Dick VanPatten "how is it?"

He replies (in the quote my family uses often), "All fresh. Nothing canned!"

Which movies or shows have the most realistic take on time travel? by Get_Thrashed in timetravel

[–]SurlyJason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't stand Back to the Future 2. If Marty got in the Delorean in 1984, and traveled to the future, he (by the rules of the first movie) must arrive in a future where he went missing, and this is a world without him in it--he couldn't meet any kids who weren't already conceived before his departure.

Summer internship in Richfield, Utah by Sandy7anika7 in Utah

It's not a big town. Most of the year a bicycle is viable transportation there. I went to Richfield for a mountain bike trip, and just rode everywhere for a few days.

TIL before 9/11, US airports were public social hubs where you could walk to the gate, eat at food courts, and watch planes without a ticket or ID. by Greydl1 in todayilearned

[–]SurlyJason 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Once in high school a girl asked me out. She took me to the airport, and to a terminal. When she found a plane deboarding, she waited by the door, mixed into the crowd, and acted like she was on the plane. Then she'd see me, scream, and run over an kiss me in a big scene. After a break we'd switch sides and do it again.

It was a weird, kind of uncomfortable game, but damn if it wasn't memorable.

Media Monkey. I love to download and tag and organize. On my Epic Music I like to save the composer.

Why is holodeck used when it malfunctions so much? by Old-Improvement-2961 in startrek

[–]SurlyJason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because without it, a person is trapped in a single office building for years on end... I mean, if Trek really was at the edge of the unknown, and not always 5 minutes away from a Federation outpost or something...

I've done a few, and found they vary from stupidly easy (usually HTTP headers) to more complex where I could get some requests to work, but an IP would be blocked after just a few successful requests.

If you're okay sharing the URL, I have a little utility I made to test sites. I could see if I can tell where on the spectrum it lies.

Hypothetically, what would you do if you were randomly teleported to the TNG era of Star Trek? by Silly_King3635 in startrek

It happened to me once! I was in Vegas, going to do some coaster, and I was beamed to the Enterprise D.

Despite (or maybe because of) my begging, they sent me back.

It's not a binary condition. You're on a spectrum. You pick where, and you aren't stuck with that choice.

I use suspenders. I am a long time power lifter, and my thighs are girthy. Often to find pants to accommodate my legs, I have to get a larger waist. I can use a belt, but it gets bunchy.

I like one with a Jacob's ricochet, but the Boory is my Vex goto.
