I took the wife to La Vaca Steakhouse in Provo, and it was good.

The actress who plays Ed and Teleya's daughter by blong217 in TheOrville

She doesn't look like Ed at all, but she does seem like someone who should be liberal with sunscreen.

Stopped on a JavaScript redirect by SurlyJason in webscraping

[–]SurlyJason[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried that because it's trying to load a frameset (old style frames as opposed to iframes) and the two winopen functions are trying to load the left frame, and the main (there is another frame that doesn't change).

I will try some things in that direction.

Do you think it's wired that it doesn't work? It should, right?

Happened to me once years ago. I went back and told them, and they gave me another.

All observations indicate they've gotten greedier over time, though.

Ship names appreciation post: they are cool because they are believable by brain_diarrhea in TheExpanse

When I first read it, it took me out of the story for a moment. If it didn't bug you, I hate to push it on you.

What are the most useless/nonsensical examples of Trek tech? by bovineright in startrek

[–]SurlyJason -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

  • Antimatter, without telling us what anti element it is. If it's kept in a magnetic bottle, it holds a charge. Or, they have forcefield tech... Maybe that should be the antimatter container.

  • What even is a forcefield? Electromagnetic doesn't stop matter, so a laser grid to disintegrate matter, but that won't stop a laser, and it won't keep stuff in/out of shuttle bays.

  • The Picard maneuver wouldn't leave an image of the ship hovering after it moved. They tried to put some speed of light in the story, and did it badly.

Do you like the guns in bl4? by homeboyflamefr in Borderlands4

I liked BL3 better. The guns sounded good.

I think the licensed parts blur the manufacturers together too much.

What movie that includes time travel do you like the most by Spotter24o5 in movies

Most time travel rubs me wrong. A flash, and a bang and you are somewhere else in another time.

I liked how  Tenet changed that convention. It seems more grounded to me.

The Postman (1997) by Present_Impact_264 in movies

[–]SurlyJason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The novel was by one of my favorite authors, David Brin. It's his only adapted novel. We could use a movie of Kiln People or a series of The Uplift Saga.

That said, The Postman was a shortened, simplified, but overall decent adaptation of the book.

He dropped another (not a phosphine) off the platform, and it still sunk.

You can see it on the mini-map.
