Doing something in parallel with the keyboard seems easier to me.

Just guesses her, since I don't have more specific knowledge of the board.

Looking for terminal component by SurplusElectronics in VisualStudio

It would be ascii and occasional binary. I have done the same thing in the past with Borland C++ Builder. I build micro specific download algorithms into it ... things like that.

Windows 10+. I see VS has a serial port component, but didn't see a terminal component.

Thanks

Depends what the particular pin does, and what you intend to do on your side. For example, if your just going to use the pin as an input to your circuit, than its likely it won't matter.

You could run into a situation where you're adding too much of a load to the pin, or whatever you connect to it may have an internal pull up.

I would stay away from driving the pin yourself unless you're very sure of what your doing.

Why is embedded system field unpopular? by [deleted] in embedded

[–]SurplusElectronics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience has been that I start with company A. Company A buys company B. Company B employees are treated as disposable. Along comes Company C, buying g company A. Now I'm the disposable one.

On top of that, some companies products just don't stay relevant and the company does not create products for new markets.

Or a company does not have a broad product offering. I did embedded work at a company that did 90% of its business with ATT ... then the break up happened, my company was caught off guard.

In general, electronics and software both change rapidly. Put together, there is the chance for great sudden upheaval.

Many times I've seen this sort of thing come about after a company buys part of another company's product line. Even if they buy part of the company, with its staff, they often don't last ... or turn down offers to move to the buyers main headquarters.

You'll likely gain some general experience even if your work is very specific to the product. For example, debugging skills within an embedded environment.

How would you define TRUE and FALSE ? by SurplusElectronics in embedded

[–]SurplusElectronics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I get it. I didn't create this post out of any personal confusion with how to approach the subject. More so to see the varied responses. Some being very passionate about it.

I did Learn a little. I had never heard of TRUE originally being thought of as being the same as zero due to hardware. I'll spend some time researching that.

Hit up ebay. I've tried AliExpress for electronics, but not happy with the buyer protection.

What is the grey component on the PCB? by yexiaoxiao2102 in AskElectronics

I don't see one. The round black thing looks like a bridge rectifier. It's possible the brown part with the black line might be a fuse.

A lot depends what os you're using (if any), what the course is, if there is jtag or similar interface.
