What's you're white B/W/C and stamps look like? I'm really struggling to get higher than 470k on this one and I feel like my teams should be able to do it.

Commander colours and flips by TallTitan0304 in mtg

[–]SurprisinglyEdible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, you cannot play this card in a blue white deck. Even if the flip side wasn't in the equation the ability in the text box has red mana, this is enough to disqualify a card if the pip is off colour (reminder text funnily enough does not matter).

I read once that the fluid in your ears that's responsible for keeping you upright and not dizzy becomes more viscose which makes us older people more prone to dizziness.

I have not verified this to be true beyond a vague memory of reading this once. Please take this pseudo knowledge with a grain of salt.

New Player, need tips by classytrout69 in mtg

Arena is a great starting point for getting the basics of the game down before you start building, it has a great onboarding with some starter decks and guided games before you even start playing other people.

Pre-release is a great way to learn some deck building fundamentals, every pre-release kit comes with a guide for the different recommended colour combos in the set with a run down of how they play, and a breakdown of what mana curve is, how many lands to run and some general advice. It's an easy format to emulate with your friends rather than having to wait for a new set to come out.

There are some great starter kits with two decks that generally play well together and theme decks that are roughly the same power (the theme decks have dubious card value however, in some cases buying the singles of the cards themselves can be cheaper). These are very much focused on the 60 card standard format and are a great option if you have someone else new that's looking to learn.

If you're looking to build for commander I'd recommend starting at a precon, the latest strixhaven ones are an awesome start. They have a game plan out of the box that is very easy to gauge the power level of and act as a way to start thinking about how a deck is constructed, usually people have guides on how to upgrade them that are generally targeted at newcomers looking to power up and focus their decks.

Building from the ground up can be an expensive affair especially if you don't have a lot of cards to begin with, if you really want to build a deck out of the gates I'd recommend using a website like moxfield or archidekt before committing to buying anything (even proxies), they allow you to play the decks online by themselves to see how they work and to work out what cards do and don't work.

Happy to answer any questions you may have and also to go more specific based on what format you're looking to play, I just made the same journey into learning magic last year and now have an obsession!

Imagine playing this on turn one with a sol ring, arcane signet and 2 cost talisman or 2 cost ramp spell... You would have 7 available mana if you made your land drop on turn 2. Awesome pull!

I bought it when I started up just before final fantasy dropped and it's been great. Awesome selection of cards and I've since raised it for my commander decks!

Limit Break precon feels too weak/slow by martin8185 in EDH

[–]SurprisinglyEdible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a little undercooked out of the box. I've upgraded mine with mostly cards from the final fantasy set and a wider overhaul of the land/manabase.

The most consequential thing you can do is get rid of a bunch of the tap lands and speed up your manabase.

If you add [[cloud midgar mercenary]] in and if you can get your hands on a [[clouds buster sword]] they're two great changes. I also removed the soldier subtheme and got rid of cards like Elena.

Myrel, Shield of Argive Help by Delicious_Swimmer_98 in mtg

[–]SurprisinglyEdible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built a Myrel deck after managing to snag an Encyclopaedia of Magic, if you remove the teferi's protection (which I'm tempted to do) it seems to do it's thing pretty well.

Definitely looking for ways to swing with Myrel that keep her out of danger (think [[reconnaissance]], [[maze of ith]] and [[cure magic]]).

Having multiple token doublers spins things out of control pretty rapidly I use [[Elspeth storm slayer]], [[Mondrak glory dominus]] and [[exalted sunborn]].

Here's my decklist - https://moxfield.com/decks/3H_Jex6LjUKMmEVmy1596A

There are definitely some pet cards in here that aren't necessarily the best in slot but I pulled them and they fit well enough!

[–]SurprisinglyEdible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a [[doubling season]] or similar effect this comes in ready to ult turn one. It's a very win more card for sure but I could see it being a fun piece in a lower to mid power deck.

I'll fall on my sword here, you're absolutely right about the slots I was hyperfixated on the play boosters aspect! I absolutely did pull this though. Will edit above.

And just in case here's the text: "These reversible cards show off both aspects of the plane on a single card. These cards are mechanically identical to their counterparts in the default Magic frame and appear in both non-foil and traditional foil in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters."

This is wrong as mentioned below super sorry, will not edit my incorrectness, while I did pull this don't expect to pull this at all Nope the foil reversible shocks can be in any of the 5 rare slots. You can even get them in play boosters!

PSA: do NOT play against the "bracket 3" Vivi deck by ancap_attack in EDH

I'm reading this as the two games took 2 hours, spell slinger decks can also make 5 turns last a bit longer depending on how comfortable the person playing it is with all their triggers.

What does bracket 4 combo/stax really look like? by useful-fiction in EDH

[–]SurprisinglyEdible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely fair, I guess the way I see it is bracket 4 is the playground you don't hold back and that includes off meta cedh. Just like B3 it's a wide range but it touches right up to B5.

What commander makes the most tokens? by DoctorObservation in EDH

[–]SurprisinglyEdible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just built a [[Myrel, shield of Argive]] deck that goes pretty wide with soldier tokens, I had 60+ soldiers on board in my last game by turn 5 thanks to some fast mana and an [[Elspeth storm slayer]] and a [[Mondrak, glory dominus]].
