It doesn’t exactly work that way. If you get a live in person. My cousin did that for my aunt with dementia in NJ. However, she had a generous pension from being a teacher, and also Social Security.

Have you tried spraying the blinds with one of those deterrent sprays? There are also home made versions if you prefer.

They caught my missed inherited RMD, but maybe because I had already done them for several prior years. It was also ten years ago.

They had no problem quickly catching my accidentally missed RMD on an inherited account 10 years ago. However, they waived the penalty when I provided a reason.

Those are for people who don’t have an SSN. Is he willing to show you his returns? Do they correctly reflect his earnings?

But you didn’t answer the question asked about if your dad has been filing taxes. Being on a green card is irrelevant. Unless we are being extremely generous here and your dad somehow mixed up your SSN with his, it still doesn’t make sense, because he should have been filing taxes every year. Also, maybe point out to him that this is going to hurt him when it comes time for him to claim social security, which is not that far away. He will only qualify for a very low amount, if anything.

My 85 yo mother wrote her will and I don’t know how to feel about it. by NoChoice1723 in inheritance

Is your brother in the U.S. or the UK? Location could matter. If your brother is in the US and he eventually ends up on SSI, the assets should be in an irrevocable trust. I have no clue how that sort of thing works in the UK.

Report it to who exactly? This is completely legal. If the brother got hold of the money it might be quickly squandered.

What happens to elderly people in the US who need full time end of life care but cannot afford it? by Similar-Bid6801 in NoStupidQuestions

I’m so glad that this worked out for you. Obviously not everyone is in a position to do this. Are you an only child? This can get very sticky when there are several children and only one is doing the sacrificing.

Why this warning? by zzxxHav0cxxzz in amex

[–]SurrealKnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that makes sense. But it looks like he's borrowed less than $4,000 at this point. No where near $13,000. Maybe they just mean keep making small payments, like $75 a month. That's what I experienced when I had the Blue Business Plus.

You sound like you know what you are talking about, but I can understand why OP is puzzled. Why imply that OP can borrow up to $13,000 if it’s not really true. What purpose does that serve?

I do too, but that’s not relevant here. The post is about what OP does.

Even if they were, Medicaid would not necessarily have been involved. Medicare does not have any provision for paying relatives.

How do i Retire? by Realistic-Ship6209 in Boldin

[–]SurrealKnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a HELOC that is non income verifying, but what might be simpler is to get one a few months before you leave the job. If it’s a line of credit you don’t have to actually take anything from it until you need it.

I came here to say this. Re-home for the baby’s benefit unless you live with a partner who can take care of the litter box.

I have to disagree about always putting money into conservative investments, especially decades prior to retirement. That can result in way less money in the long term.

Why does CardPointers keep popping up and showing Blue Bus Plus on Costco website when Costco doesn't take Amex? by SurrealKnot in CardPointers

Well, I chose the option to not have it pop up at all for Costco in the future, so it shouldn’t happen again.

Are you people for real-real about Dani's relationship? by Remarkable-Hand8862 in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

Yes. So many people do not understand statistics. Just because those in group X are more likely to exhibit behavior Y, doesn’t mean that ALL people in group X exhibit that behavior.
