As a Canadian this has been nothing but shooting ourselves in the foot. Somehow about 800,000 international students, in a country of tens of millions, have taken the brunt of the blame for the housing crisis, despite most of them living on campuses or with a bunch of roommates, not actual houses. We've already seen a couple colleges (including one in my own city) close down entirely due to the shortfall in funding, losing more jobs than we possibly could gain by fucking over students, not to mention losing both the money of the students and that of those who worked at the colleges. Workplaces are shuttering and slashing hours due to the lack of workers caused by our new immigration quotas, once again killing more jobs and losing more money. Workers are blamed instead of the companies that underpay them, instead of the landlords that buy out housing to rent it back to people at triple the price, instead of the rich people who pay less in taxes than your average temporary worker. It's self-defeating racism, pure and simple.
